ONEONTA, N.Y. --
The Center for
Social Responsibility and Community of the SUNY College at
Oneonta will present its seventh annual Volunteerism and Social
Responsibility conference from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday,
November 3, in the Morris Conference Center on campus. Registration
will begin at 9:30 a.m., and participants in the conference will
receive lunch and a t-shirt. Admission to the conference is
complimentary, and members of the community are invited to
participate.
Designed to inspire participants to make a difference in their
communities, the conference will open with a keynote panel featuring
Charlotte McKane, speaking on "Charlotte's Circle: A Circle of
Friends, A Circle of Influence"; Paula Huntsman presenting "Girls on
the Run"; and Jason Burton offering "Community Mentor." Each panel
member will give a short presentation, respond to a series of
questions, and then participate in an open discussion with
conference participants.
Following the keynote panel, the conference will offer a choice
among six workshop sessions. Presenters are scheduled to include
Melissa Marietta from Cooperstown, who will speak on "Life Long
Learning: Volunteering for your Future"; Dr. Chris Keegan of
SUNY-Oneonta on "Everything You've Ever Wanted to Know About Civil
Disobedience"; Dr. Ashok Malhotra and Linda Drake of SUNY-Oneonta
offering "Building Character Brick by Brick"; Valerie Venezia of the
Council of Community Services of New York State speaking on "Web 2.0
Will Rule the World: How to Use Your Powers for Good"; Dr. Joe
Greenfield of SUNY-Delhi presenting on "Volunteering as Part of
Life"; and Christian Vestefeldt of SUNY-Delhi offering "Alternatives
to the ‘Brown Bag' Stress (or Anxiety) Remedies."
The conference on Volunteerism and Social Responsibility is
co-sponsored by SUNY- Oneonta and its Center for Social
Responsibility and Community and SUNY Delhi and its O'Connor Center
