ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Last year, the
Division of Education at
the SUNY College at Oneonta entered into a unique college partnership
program with Bensonhurst elementary school PS 247 in Brooklyn, designed to
provide the school's students with information and a connection to SUNY
Oneonta to help them learn about the college experience. This week, PS 247
celebrated having been named The New York City College Partnership
Elementary School by New York City's Department of Education.
The school held a ribbon-cutting to celebrate its designation on March
26. Later in the day, hundreds of parents attended the school's first-ever
Parents College Orientation, designed to educate parents about the
opportunities to prepare their children and plan their education through
college. College representatives gave presentations about how to select a
college, how to apply for college, and strategies for financing college
educations.
The partnership between SUNY Oneonta and the school is being coordinated
by Dr. Dennis Banks, Chair of the College's
Secondary Education
Department. More information about the PS 247 College Partnership
Program is available from Dr. Banks at (607) 436-3075.
