ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Author and journalist Craig Timberg will appear at
the SUNY College at Oneonta to discuss his book project Dr. Livingstone's
Children: Why We Are Losing the War on AIDS, and How to Win at 7 p.m. on
Tuesday, March 31, in the Center for Multicultural Experiences in Lee Hall.
Admission to the event is complimentary, and members of the community are
invited to attend.
A resident of Cooperstown,
Craig Timberg spent four years covering Africa as Johannesburg bureau
chief for The Washington Post. He has also worked for The Valley
News, The Concord Monitor, and The Baltimore Sun.
The book on which he is working,
Dr. Livingstone's
Children, argues that the AIDS epidemic grew from Western colonial
exploitation of Africa and that the billions of dollars in attempted
interventions are ineffective because they neglect the underlying sexual and
cultural factors driving the epidemic.
Mr. Timberg will speak about his book, but he will also entertain
questions on African themes or journalism in general.
More information about Craig Timberg's appearance at SUNY Oneonta is
available from the Center
for Multicultural Experiences at (607) 436-2663.
