ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Artist, tribal scholar, and community activist L.
Frank will offer a presentation entitled "The Continuance of Indigenous
California: History, Politics, Art" at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 23, in the
Center for Multicultural Experiences in Lee Hall at the SUNY College at
Oneonta. Admission to the event is complimentary, and members of the
community are invited to attend.
L. Frank, who is of Tongva/Acjachemem descent, is a board member of the
California Indian Basketweavers Association, the Advocates for Indigenous
California Language Survival, and the Native California Network,
organizations that are involved in the preservation and revival of Native
Californian languages, cultures, and traditional arts. Her long-running
column "Acorn Soup" was a staple in the quarterly journal News from
Native California. Her most recent graphic work is "Second Serving," and
her photographs, paintings, and sculpture have been exhibited widely
throughout California and across the country.
L. Frank's appearance at SUNY Oneonta is supported by the
Office of
Equity and Inclusion, the
Women's and Gender Studies Department, and the
