ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Alphonso David, Chief of the Attorney General's
Civil Rights Bureau, will be the featured speaker in a panel discussion on
civil rights to be held in the
Center for Multicultural
Experiences in Lee Hall at the SUNY College at Oneonta at 6:30 p.m. on
Wednesday, April 22. Admission to the event is complimentary, and members of
the community are invited to attend.
The panel discussion, entitled "Know Your Civil Rights," will cover
topics such as discrimination in employment, credit, and public
accommodations, as well as hate crimes and public safety. Other panelists
will include John Adams, Chair of the Legal Redress Committee of the Oneonta
Branch of the NAACP; James Koury, City of Oneonta Clerk and Editor of
"Diversity Rules"; Harry Bradshaw Matthews, Associate Dean of Hartwick
College; Joseph Redmond, City of Oneonta Chief of Police; Guillermo Reyes,
SUNY Oneonta student; and Ibram Rogers, faculty member in the SUNY Oneonta
History and Africana & Latino Studies Departments.
Oneonta Mayor John Nader will present the welcome with representatives of
the Oneonta Branch of the NAACP and the SUNY Oneonta Africana & Latino
Studies Department, which are co-sponsors of the program.
