ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The Concert Choir of the SUNY College at Oneonta
will present its fall show, entitled "Songs of Love and Peace," on Tuesday,
November 4, at 7:30 p.m. in the Hunt College Union Ballroom on campus.
Admission to the performance is complimentary, and members of the community
are invited to attend.
Under the direction of
Dr. Robert
Barstow, the choir will perform a varied program featuring music of
other cultures: "Ask the Watchman," a South Sea island spiritual with
African percussion; "Desh," based on a beautiful and robust South Indian
raga; and "Ta Tikee Tei," a jazzy sound-chant by Canadian composer Sol
Rabinovitch.
Contrasting markedly with the extremely rhythmic piece will be Z. Randall
Stroope's setting of the Lebanese/American artist Kahlil Gibran's love poem,
"Winter." Completing the program will be selections of contemporary folk,
popular, and rock repertoire, including solo selections by SUNY Oneonta
students Alexandra Schleuderer and Jacqueline Zopf.
More information about the concert is available from Dr. Robert Barstow,
Chair of the SUNY Oneonta
Music Department,
at (607) 436-3412.
