ONEONTA, N.Y. --
The Music
Department of the SUNY College at Oneonta will present a fall
choral-fest featuring the College's Chamber Singers, Concert Choir,
and Gospel Choir on Tuesday, November 6, at 7:30 p.m. in the Hunt
College Union Ballroom on campus. Admission to the performance is
complimentary, and members of the community are invited to attend.
Under the direction of
Dr. Timothy Newton, a new faculty member in the College's Music
Department who will be making his debut as conductor, the Chamber
Singers will open the program with "Due North" by Vancouver composer
Stephen Chatman. SUNY-Oneonta student Claire Stiglmeier will be the
featured soloist in Whitacre's "Lux aurumque," and guest artist
Colby Thomas of the Music Department faculty will perform in
"The Road Home" by Paulus. The singers will conclude the first
portion of the program with "Sing Me to Heaven" by Gawthrop and the
"William Tell Overture" arranged by Eschliman.
The Concert Choir, directed by
Dr. Robert Barstow, will then perform "Oh, Yes" by Barnett;
"Black Sheep" by Rutter; settings of two Shakespeare poems, "Sigh No
More, Ladies" and "O Mistress Mine" by Harris; "Noel Ayisyen" by
Desamours; "The Little Potato" by Daglish; and a jazz arrangement of
"Movin' On" by Broadley.
The finale will feature the Gospel Choir, directed by
SUNY-Oneonta student Eddie Backus, joined by the Chamber Singers and
the Concert Choir in an exciting arrangement of "Praise His Holy
Name."
