ONEONTA, N.Y. -- For the second successive year, "CosmoGirl"
magazine has named the SUNY College at Oneonta as one of the 50 best
colleges in the United States. Developed in cooperation with the "Princeton
Review," the publication's college guide is included in the October issue.
The magazine selected colleges based on criteria that are important to its
readers, including factors such as small class sizes, prominent female
faculty, strong women's sports teams, career centers that excel at
internships and job placement, and leadership opportunities in campus clubs
and activities. Based on a national survey of colleges, "CosmoGirl" narrowed
its selections to 50, including such prominent universities as Stanford,
Rice, and the University of California at Berkeley. The College at Oneonta
is the only SUNY institution represented.
In its descriptions, the magazine quotes a SUNY-Oneonta student praising the
College's cooperative program with the Fashion Institute of Technology and
the College's student fashion shows.
The SUNY College at Oneonta, which enrolls over 5,800 students, is a liberal
arts college with a pre-professional focus. Established as a state normal
school in 1889 and incorporated as a founding member of the state university
system in 1948, the College is well known for its outstanding faculty,
strong academic programs, educational technology, community service and
character-building activities, and scenic campus.
