GOVERNOR APPOINTS PATRICK BROWN TO SUNY-ONEONTA COLLEGE COUNCIL

ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Governor Eliot Spitzer has announced the appointment of Patrick E. Brown of Feura Bush, New York, to the College Council of the SUNY College at Oneonta. Brown, a founding member of the Albany law firm of Brown McMahon & Weinraub LLC, graduated from the College at Oneonta in 1978 with a bachelor's degree in Political Science. He replaces Maria Kelso, who served on the Council since 2006.

After his graduation from the Pace University School of Law in 1983, Brown served as Law Assistant and later Chief Law Assistant to the New York State Court of Appeals in Albany. In 1987, he joined the office of Governor Mario Cuomo as Assistant Counsel to the Governor and later served as First Assistant Counsel to the Governor.

Brown served as Director of the Office of Industry and Community Relations for the New York State Department of Economic Development in 1994 before joining the law firm of Plunkett & Jaffe, PC, in 1995.

Each state-operated campus in the SUNY system has its own College Council. College Councils have specific statutory powers, such as naming buildings and making regulations regarding student conduct. The members of each council are appointed by the governor with the exception of the student representative, who is elected by the student body.
