ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Governor David Paterson has announced the
appointment of Patrick E. Brown of Feura Bush, New York, as Chair of the
College Council of the SUNY College at Oneonta. Brown replaces David W.
Brenner, who served as Chair of the College Council since 2000. Brenner will
serve out the two remaining years in his term on the Council and will
continue as Chair of the College's Presidential Search Committee.
Patrick Brown, a founding member of the Albany law firm of Brown McMahon
& Weinraub LLC, graduated from the College at Oneonta in 1978 with a
bachelor's degree in Political Science. After his graduation from the Pace
University School of Law in 1983, he served as Law Assistant and later Chief
Law Assistant to the New York State Court of Appeals in Albany. In 1987, he
joined the office of Governor Mario Cuomo as Assistant Counsel to the
Governor and later served as First Assistant Counsel to the Governor.
Brown served as Director of the Office of Industry and Community
Relations for the New York State Department of Economic Development in 1994
before joining the law firm of Plunkett & Jaffe, PC, in 1995.
Each state-operated campus in the SUNY system has its own College
Council. College Councils have specific statutory powers, such as naming
buildings and making regulations regarding student conduct. The members of
each council are appointed by the governor with the exception of the student
representative, who is elected by the student body.
