ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The
Biology Department
faculty of the SUNY College at Oneonta honored several students for
outstanding scholarship at a gathering on campus on March 23.
Jessica Roberts of Glens Falls received the Jan Kee Ang Memorial Award
for her outstanding academic performance as a senior biology major. Samantha
Kamp, a sophomore biology major from Deposit, received the 2009-2010 Jan Kee
Ang Scholarship.
The award and the scholarship are presented in memory of SUNY Oneonta
faculty member Jan Kee Ang, who is remembered as a superb and dedicated
teacher. Following his death in 1975, his colleagues endowed an award to
honor outstanding biology majors. The scholarship was established by Ang's
family.
The 2009-2010 Biology Department Scholarship was awarded to Julie Anna
Sosenko, a senior biology major from Johnson City.
Catherine Telehany, a December 2008 graduate from Corning, received the
Corning Award for Excellence in Microbiology, which is supported by Corning
Incorporated of Oneonta. The award was presented by Debra Ballentine, plant
manager of Corning Incorporated of Oneonta.
The John G. New Scholarship--established by alumni, colleagues, and
family members in memory of the late professor of biology--went to two
juniors majoring in environmental sciences with an environmental earth
sciences concentration: Glenn Bornhoft of Holbrook and Timothy Steinhofer of
New Paltz.
The Biological Field
Station's summer internship was awarded to Liza Hendricks, a senior from
Milford who is majoring in biology with a concentration in pre-veterinary
medicine.
The SUNY College at Oneonta, which enrolls over 5,800 students, is a
liberal arts college with a pre-professional focus. Established as a state
normal school in 1889 and incorporated as a founding member of the state
university system in 1948, the College is well known for its outstanding
faculty, strong academic programs, community service and character-building
activities, and scenic campus. |
