SUNY ONEONTA MOUNTAIN BIKE CLUB RECEIVES GRANT TO IMPROVE TRAIL

ONEONTA, N.Y. --  The Mountain Bike Club of the SUNY College at Oneonta has received a $500 trail-building grant from the International Mountain Biking Association in conjunction with Clif Bar. The club plans to use the grant for improvements to the multi-use trail located behind Oneonta High School.

Chris Berkley, President of the SUNY Oneonta Mountain Biking Club, prepared the grant application based on information he received from the club’s advisor, Physical Education Department chair Al Sosa. Berkley, a Communications Studies major with minors in Spanish and Public Relations, was notified recently that the club had received one of only 10 grants awarded.

The club plans to use the funds to work on the trail in Oneonta, which is currently between 1 mile and 1.5 miles long and is used by many community members, including bikers, hikers, walkers, and runners. The grant funds will be used to purchase tools and materials to continue developing the trail.
