ONEONTA, N.Y. -- "figure 9
contemporary figurative painters," a group exhibit of the work of
nine figurative painters, will open in the
Fine
Arts Gallery of the SUNY College at Oneonta on Monday, October
29, and run through Friday, December 14. The exhibition will feature
paintings and drawings by artists Daniel Dallman, Martha Mayer
Erlebacher, Susan Moore, Truitt Seitz, Joel Sheesley, Peter Sheesley,
Gary Trento, Costa Vavagiakis, and Jerome Witkin. A reception for
the artists will be held on Friday, November 2, from 5 p.m. to 7
p.m. Admission is complimentary to the gallery and the reception,
and members of the community are invited to attend.
These artists are dedicated to the use of the human form in their
artwork for content and artistic concerns, and as such, some of the
works depict models that are unclothed. The exhibit displays a range
of traditional handling of the figure in portraiture, narrative, and
in formal aesthetic composition in a rich collection of figurative
work.
Seven of the artists are well established with national and
international gallery representation and extensive teaching
credentials, while Truitt Seitz and Peter Sheesley are both recent
graduates of the New York Academy of Art with Master of Fine Arts
degrees.
Under the direction of Tim Sheesley, the SUNY-Oneonta galleries
are open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. when the
College is in session. More information about the exhibits or the
galleries is available from Sheesley at (607) 436-2445 or on the web
