ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Dr. Randy Angiel of the
History Department
at the SUNY College at Oneonta offered a presentation entitled "Higher
Education Goals and Geography in NYS: The Regents, SUNY and the Mobile
Future" at the "SUNY & the Promise of Public Higher Education in America: A
Scholarly Conference" held in celebration of SUNY's 60th anniversary at the
University at Albany on the weekend of April 3-5.
Dr. Angiel's presentation focused on his research on the historic goals
of higher education in New York until the formation of the SUNY system in
1948 and a vision of what they could be for today. He discussed the
pedagogical and geographic challenges facing higher education and how
emerging technologies and transportation can solve many of the problems that
initially led to the creation of the state-run
SUNY system.
