ONEONTA, N.Y. -- CFRE International, the credentialing agency for
fundraising professionals, recently announced that Paul J. Adamo, Vice
President for College
Advancement at the SUNY College at Oneonta and Executive Director of the
College
at Oneonta Foundation, has attained recertification as a Certified Fund
Raising Executive. Adamo has held CFRE certification, which must be renewed
every three years, since 1986. He is one of approximately 5,200 executives
who hold the certification worldwide and the only one in Otsego, Delaware,
or Chenango Counties.
To hold the certification, fundraising executives must agree to uphold
the "Accountability Standards" and "Donor Bill of Rights" established by
CFRE International. To earn initial certification, individuals must pass a
demanding written exam and meet the rigorous standards set by CFRE
International, which include tenure in the profession, education,
demonstrated fundraising achievement, and a commitment to service to
non-profit organizations. To be recertified, individuals must continue to
demonstrate fundraising employment, fundraising results, and continuing
education.
A 1981 graduate of the SUNY-Oneonta, Adamo joined the College at Oneonta
in 1993 as Director of College Advancement and was promoted to Vice
President in 1997. In his role, he coordinated the College at Oneonta
Foundation's two highly successful fundraising campaigns: The Campaign For
Oneonta, a five-year campaign that raised nearly $6 million at its
conclusion in 1999, and
Changing Lives Since 1889, a five-year campaign that raised over $12
million at its conclusion last year.
In the course of the recent campaign, 63 new scholarships were created,
including 28 during the 2006-07 fiscal year. For the past six years, the
College at Oneonta has led all similar SUNY colleges in the percentage of
alumni who make a gift to their alma mater. Last year, 19.1% of SUNY-Oneonta
alumni made a gift to the College, a rate more than twice as high as the
national average for public colleges.
Before joining the College at Oneonta, Paul Adamo served as Director of
Development at Pathfinder Village in Edmeston from 1981 to 1985. From 1985
through 1993, he was a senior development officer at Union College in
Schenectady.
Adamo is active in a number of local organizations, including the Ricky
J. Parisian Scholarship Foundation and Oneonta Rotary Club.
