ONEONTA, N.Y. -- SUNY Oneonta received five awards from the National Association of Campus Activities (NACA) at its Mid-Atlantic conference in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, on October 16. The association presented SUNY Oneonta with the Outstanding Leadership Program award for the Harvey Delaney Leadership Institute, the Outstanding Delegation Award, and three graphic arts design awards.
SUNY Oneonta Vice President for Student Development Steven R. Perry commented about the awards, "I'm especially proud of our students for their enthusiasm in representing the college and their commitment to providing outstanding activities on campus."
The Leadership Institute at SUNY Oneonta, now in its 24th year, helps students develop the tools necessary to translate the leadership skills they develop at college into those that will serve them in the workplace and/or graduate school. The institute was renamed in 2009 in honor of Harvey Delaney, longtime director of campus activities at SUNY Oneonta and past recipient of NACA's highest accolade, the Founders Award, who died last year.
The SUNY Oneonta student delegates to NACA were recognized based upon their participation in the NACA graphic arts competition, school showcase and swap, block booking, volunteerism, and educational sessions.
SUNY Oneonta received graphic arts awards in the categories of student-designed one-color for a promotion of the "Zombie Prom," faculty/staff-designed one-color for "Alakazam," and faculty/staff-designed non-poster publicity for the "College Union Activities Council Orientation Video."
The National Association for Campus Activities advances campus activities in higher education through a business and learning partnership, creating educational and business opportunities for its school and professional members. Established in 1960, NACA now has more than 1,000 college and university members and close to 650 associate members who represent artists, lecturers, and performers.
