Evaluation of Student Experiences

Although this site contains detailed information regarding SUNY Oneonta students’ perceptions of the College’s academic environment as assessed by the NSSE in Spring 2011, Oneonta has participated in the NSSE on four different occasions (in 2003, 2005, 2008, and 2011), and also was a participant in the inaugural administration of the Beginning College Survey of Student Engagement (BCSSE) in Summer 2007. Therefore, there is abundant information available – both across time using different student cohorts and within the same student sample – as to how Oneonta students rate the College on the NSSE/BCSSE benchmarks (Level of Academic Challenge, Student-Faculty Interaction, Active and Collaborative Learning, Enriching Educational Experiences, Supportive Campus Environment). Results demonstrate that Oneonta students evaluate the College very positively on these indicators, especially as seniors. In addition, trend analyses show that, from 2003 through 2011, there have been increases in students’ positive impressions for most benchmarks in both first-year and senior student samples.
