NCAA Atlantic Region Championship @ Letchworth
State Park (SUNY Geneseo)
Saturday, November 14, 2009
The Red
Dragons placed 15th out of 33 teams with 398 points, which
tied their best finish ever at the Atlantic Regional. Their 398 points,
however, was their lowest point total ever by 42. Junior Celia Alterio
led the way with a 53rd place finish in a time of 23:41 over
the 6K Letchworth State Park course. Freshman Molly Hassett was next,
placing 62nd only 9 seconds back in 23:50. Sophomore Lauren
Brunetto placed 78th in a time of 24:08. The final four to
cross the line for O-State were all freshmen. Allie DiMura and Lindsay
Romaine rounded out the scoring in 104th and 106th
with times of 24:46 and 24:48, respectively. Carolyn Nasr and Pam Ernst
were the displacers in 109th and 124th with times
of 24:54 and 25:10, respectively. I am excited for the future of the
womens program, commented Head Coach Matt LoPiccolo. We return our
top eight runners next year, of which there is talent to cultivate. I
want to thank senior Margaret Conlon for teaching the younglings how to
run as Red Dragons.

Lehigh University Paul Short Invitational
Friday, October 2, 2009
The Red Dragons were seeded in the middle Brown race of three and
placed 20th out of 39 teams with 513 points in at the
enormous Paul Short Invitational. Since 2002, when the NCAA started
running the 6,000 meter distance for women, Oneonta has had only three
women break the 24 minute mark. Today, the Red Dragons had seven women
run between 23:19 and 23:57. Freshman Amanda Schermerhorn led the way
in moving up the entire race and finishing in 77th with a
time of 23:19. Her time is now the second fastest in school history,
only behind 2006 NCAA Qualifier, Kaitlin OSullivan. Junior Celia
Aterio was only two seconds back in 81st place with a
personal best time of 23:21 while sophomore Lauren Brunetto was 96th
in 23:31 in her first collegiate 6K. Freshmen took the next five
O-State spots as Molly Hassett and Allie DiMura rounded out the scoring
in 128th and 139th places respectively, with times
of 23:48 and 23:53.

Oneonta State
Airfield Invitational
Friday, September 18, 2009
The Red
Dragons come into their final home meet of the season unranked and came
out ahead of the eighth ranked team in the Atlantic Region. Oneonta
placed second out of six teams with 53 points. Plattsburgh (#6) won
with 40 points, while Hamilton (#8) was third with 55. Junior Celia
Alterio and sophomore Lauren Brunetto led the way with both crossing the
line in 17:30, good for seventh and eighth places, respectively. The
strong freshmen class followed right behind in rounding out the top
seven spots for O-State. Carolyn Nasr was 11th in 17:37 over
the 4.5km Fortin Park course. Molly Hassett was ten seconds back in 13th
place. Amanda Schermerhorn and Lindsay Romaine crossed in 14th
and 15th places, respectively with times of 17:51 and 17:54.
Allie DiMura placed 20th in 18:08 while senior Margaret
Conlon ran a huge personal best of 18:23 in placing 25th.
The top five pack time was an impressive 21 seconds. We moved
exceptionally well the second half of the race, commented head coach
Matt LoPiccolo. In the three races thus far, these women have executed
everything that has been asked of them, and now they may have just
earned themselves a top ten regional ranking.
