2008 WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY RECAP

NCAA Atlantic Region Championship @ St. Lawrence University – Saturday, November 15^th, 2008

The Red Dragons ended the season with a 22^nd place finish out of 30 teams with 618 points.  Sophomore Celia Alterio and junior Margaret Conlon turned in solid performances to lead the way.  Alterio placed 73^rd with a time of 25:24 while Conlon crossed the line at 26:13 to place 105^th.  Freshman Ellen Paccia finished in 131^st in a time of 26:47.  Junior Amberlyn Mattice placed 155^th in a time of 27:19.  Freshman Diane Herzog was three places back in 158^th in a time of 27:19 to complete the scoring.  Classmate Abby Lee ran 27:45 and placed 166^th.

ECAC Championship @ Colt State Park (RI) – Saturday, November 8^th, 2008

The Red Dragons traveled to Rhode Island and placed 13^th out of 42 teams with 456 points.  Sophomore Celia Alterio led the way with a 46^th place finish in a time of 25:15 over the 6,000 meter course.  Junior Margaret Conlon was not far behind in 65^th place with a time of 25:43.  Freshman Ellen Paccia was next in for O-State in 74^th with a time of 25:54.  Classmate Abby Lee placed 103^rd in a time of 26:33 while fellow freshman Diane Herzog finished out the scoring in 194^th place with a time of 28:22.

SUNYAC Championship @ Letchworth State Park (Geneseo) – Saturday, November 1st, 2008

The Red Dragons placed 8^th out of 10 teams with 218 points.  Sophomore Celia Alterio returned from injury and led the way with a 47^th place finish in a time of 24:42 over the 6,000 meter course.  Freshman Ellen Paccia was just behind in 54^th place in a personal best time of 24:56.  Junior Margaret Conlon ran a personal best, as well, in placing 59^th with a time of 25:19.  Classmate Amberlyn Mattice returned from injury to place 71^st in a time of 25:43.  Freshman Abby Lee rounded out the scoring in 75^th place with a time of 25:54, which was a personal best.  Classmates Diane Herzog and Bri MacBlane also ran PR’s of 25:55 and 27:34, respectively.

University @ Albany Invitational – Saturday, October 18th, 2008

Only four Red Dragons competed at Albany as injuries and illness have decimated more than half the team.  However, freshman Ellen Paccia moved into the top 10 on the school 5k list with a 42^nd place finish in the gold race with a time of 20:39.  Junior Margaret Conlon ran a personal best of 20:56 to place 53^rd.  Freshman Abby Lee placed 64^th with a time of 21:19 while classmate Diane Herzog placed 91^st with a time of 22:25.  O-State will take next weekend off from competition in preparation for the SUNYAC Championships, hosted by Geneseo at Letchworth State Park on November 1^st.

St. Lawrence University Hoffman Invitational – Saturday, September 27, 2008

Oneonta State placed twelfth out of fifteen with 328 points as the Red Dragons raced their first 6K of the season.  Leading the team was junior Amberlyn Mattice in 57^th place in a time of 24:44.  She was followed by sophomore Celia Alterio in 67^th place with a time of 24:58.  Next to come in was junior Margaret Conlon in 99^th with a time of 25:51, nearly a personal best.  Rounding out the scoring were freshmen Ellen Paccia and Abby Lee in 109^th and 116^th respectively, with times of 26:10 and 26:26.  Classmate Diane Herzog turned in strong 6K debut, finishing right behind Lee in 26:35.

Oneonta State Airfield Invitational – Friday, September 19, 2008

The Red Dragons competed on their home course for the second time this season, placing fifth out of nine teams with 127 points.  Leading the way were junior Amberlyn Mattice and sophomore Celia Alterio, placing ninth and twelfth in times of 17:44 and 17:51, respectively.  Finishing together were junior Margaret Conlon and freshman Ellen Paccia in times of 18:49 and 18:54, good for thirty-ninth and fortieth places.  Rounding out the scoring was freshman Abby Lee following close behind in forty-fifth place, in a time of 19:05.  All five scoring members improved upon their times from the same course two weeks prior at the Oneonta State Early Bird Invitational.

Hartwick College Fast Course 5K – Saturday, September 13, 2008

The Oneonta Women competed across town at the Hartwick College Fast Course 5k today.  While resting the upperclassmen, the all-freshmen squad finished second of three teams, narrowly being defeated by the host school.  Ellen Paccia notched her first collegiate victory by running a smart race and taking the lead with 400 meters to go in a time of 20:58.  She was followed by Abby Lee, who ran a gamely race, to grab fourth place in 21:27.  Brianna MacBlane finished in a time of 22:48, good for ninth place.  Rounding out the scoring were Diane Herzog and Kelly Williams in eleventh and thirteenth places with times of 23:16 and 23:51, respectively.

Oneonta State Early Bird Invitational – Saturday, September 6, 2008

Oneonta State officially opened the season on their home course at Fortin Park.  The Red Dragons placed second out of five teams with 41 points.  Junior Amberlyn Mattice led the way with a runner-up finish in a time of 17:46 over the 4,500 meter course.  Sophomore Celia Alterio was fifth in a time of 18:04 with junior Margaret Conlon following in a time of 19:03, good for fourteenth place.  Freshmen Ellen Paccia and Abby Lee rounded out the scoring with seventeenth and twenty-first place finishes respectively, in times of 19:10 and 19:39.  Their classmates Diane Herzog and Bri MacBlane, placed twenty-ninth and thirty-third, respectively in times of 20:03 and 20:16.  Oneonta Alumni Kaitlin O'Sullivan took the win breaking the course record by twenty seconds and Amanda Villari placed tenth in 18:36.

City Of The Hills Challenge @ Gilbert Lake State Park – Saturday, August 30, 2008

Oneonta State started the 2008 season with an informal meet with Hartwick College.  The teams were divided into pairs with the top four pairs of times being added together for a total team time.  Oneonta beat Hartwick 1:32:43 to 1:44:12.
