Coaching Staff Named 2005 Atlantic Region Women's Coach Of The Year

WAVERLY, IA - Oneonta State's Matt LoPiccolo was named the 2005 Atlantic Region Women's Outdoor Track & Field Coach Of the Year Thursday at the NCAA Championships at Wartburg College in Waverly, IA.  "I am very happy to receive this award," commented Head Coach Matt LoPiccolo.  "I am surrounded by great people at Oneonta, which I am extremely grateful for.  Once again, I feel that this award should be Coaching Staff of the year, as we would not be here without Associate Head Coach Mike Schmidt."

The Red Dragons recently won the 2005 ECAC Team Championship, the first in the brief three year existence of the track & field program.  They placed 4th at the SUNYAC Championships in April, while claiming 3 individual and 2 relay titles, while setting 3 meet records in the process.  They are represented at the NCAA Championships by senior Ashlee Robertson, who is a three time All-American.  She will run the 200 and 400 meters, where she is the 3rd seed.  Junior Musu Jackson-Buckner is the other Red Dragon at Wartburg.  She is seeded 5th in both the 100 and 200 meters.

SUNYAC Announces Men and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Coaches of the Year

FREDONIA, NY – Oneonta’s Matt LoPiccolo and Geneseo’s Dave Prevosti have been named the 2005 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Coaches of the Year. The awards are voted on by the conference coaches and given out annually at the conclusion of the championships.

LoPiccolo, who is in his fifth year of coaching at Oneonta, led his men’s indoor track and field team to a third place finish in the SUNYAC Championships, an improvement from the fifth place finish in 2004. The Oneonta Red Dragons captured three titles in the individual races and placed first in the 4x400 relay this year, setting a meet record in the process.  "I am extremely happy to receive this honor because it is a tribute to the athletes, coaches, and administration," commented LoPiccolo.  "This program has developed rapidly in three short years in the SUNYAC.  I have no delusions of grandeur about where we'd be without Associate Head Coach Mike Schmidt.  I view this award as the SUNYAC Men's Indoor Track & Field Coaching Staff of the Year."

As a first year head coach, Prevosti led his women’s track and field team to a first place finish in this year’s SUNYAC Championship registering, over 100 points more than second place finisher, Cortland. Before moving up as head coach, Prevosti spent three years as assistant coach playing a big part in the women’s first place finish the past two years as well.
