Courses I Taught:
 
Bread & Wine ImageChem 330 Introductory Biochemistry 
Introduced the structure and metabolism of proteins, amino acids, carbohydrates, lipids and nucleic acids. We covered enzymes, hormones, nutrition and regulation. Students needed organic chem. (226 or 221 and 322) to take this course. 
FlasksCHEM 398  Undergraduate Seminar
Reports, discussions and library research on selected topics in chemistry. 
DNA ModelChem 332 Biochemistry II
The second semester of the two semester chemistry major's biochemistry sequence. This course covered microbial genetics, and nucleic acid and protein structure and function. We studied DNA replication, its transcription into RNA and translation into protein. The genetic code and the regulation of gene expression were also covered. 
Students needed credit for Intro. Biochem., CHEM 330 (now 331), to take it.
DNA ModelChem 333 
Macromolecular Biochemistry (not currently offered)
A molecular biology/genetics course covering microbial genetics, and nucleic acid and protein structure and function. We studied DNA replication, its transcription into RNA and translation into protein. The genetic code and the regulation of gene expression were also covered. Students needed an organic chem (226 or 322) to take it. Microbiology and Genetics help. 
FlasksChem 100 
Chemistry for Everyday Life
This is a chemistry appreciation course for non-science majors. It emphasizes the structure and reactions of household and consumer products. No prerequisites, but you have to attend and pass the lab to pass the course. 
FlasksChem 111-112 
 General Chemistry I, Laboratory
This is designed to accompany the lectures in Chem 111. Students prepare some compounds and analyze them quantitatively. The first experiments build basic skills needed later to analyze complex compounds, commercial products and foods. Click on this link for the information, procedures and report forms you will need.
