Biography (Current as of September, 2006) Robert Compton earned his doctorate and Masters of Public Administration from the State University of New York at Binghamton (1998). As Associate Professor of Political Science at the State University of New York at Oneonta, he teaches courses in comparative politics and international relations in the areas of Political Development, East and Southeast Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, Comparative Public Administration, and International Political Economy.
Dr. Compton's
current research focuses on Southern Africa (i.e., South Africa,
Zimbabwe, and Namibia). He is researching the past and future role
of redistributive justice and its link to political institutions and
laws and policies in ameliorating past grievances. These
grievances include ethnic conflict and genocide, land issues, and
workplace reorganization in the post-colonial era. He also assists with the Center for International Development's (SUNY-CID) Legislative Fellows Program as Academic Mentor. He is on their Advisory Council. He also teaches and advises the Oneonta Model UN program. Dr. Compton grew up in Japan. He is an able chef, a philatelist, and a fan of the Baltimore Orioles. Rob and Joyce have five children: Kelly, Christopher, Kayla, Colin, and Kathryn. |
