COURSE GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
By the time you finish this course, you will have mastered the basic skills of radio production, and you’ll be able to produce a wide range of audio productions from PSAs and commercials to radio shows and documentaries. You=ll be working independently in the audio lab to complete projects.
There will be quizzes on each week’s reading assignment and two unit exams. Make-up exams, as necessary, may be scheduled with permission of the instructor.
GRADING Exams and quizzes 40% Projects 60%
Absences: You are expected to attend all lecture and lab meetings for this course. If you miss a class, you are responsible for getting the assignment and learning the new skills demonstrated in class (contact the TA or talk to your classmates). Please call or email me if you are sick or have a personal emergency, so I don=t penalize you for missing class. If you have more than three unexcused absences, I will lower your final grade by half a grade.
Late Projects: Projects which are handed in late will be penalized one letter grade. (For example, an A project will receive a B.) If your project is more than a week late, you will receive an F. (If there are extraordinary circumstances, I will make an exception.) This is in fairness to those who completed their project on time. Late Equipment Return: Responsibility and reliability are part of what you are learning in this course. If equipment is returned late, I will deduct one grade from your project the first week, and one grade each week thereafter.
CALL FOR HELP! Please do not hesitate to email, call, or talk to me during office hours or in class if you are confused about anything. The TA is available to help you in the lab. Your classmates can also be a great help with hands-on production work. Plan to participate actively in classroom discussions and in lab activities. The best way to achieve your goals in this course is to involve yourself in the learning experiences.
Electronics Technician Steve Miller (607-436-3360) is also available for troubleshooting. His office is in the Technology Center on the first basement level in the library. There is an audio studio in the Technology Center which is open on a first come-first served basis.
If you have trouble using your key card to get into the studio, IRC Secretary Donna Baker (IRC 104) can help you with that and almost anything else!
