CSCI 232 Lab 1
Getting Started
This
lab is intended to get you familiar with the tools you will need for the first
7 labs. You will work in teams of 2 in
Fitz 254 and 255.
1.
Do
the LogicWorks tutorial from pages 45-85 in the LogicWorks handbook.
We have 4 manuals, and multiple copies of that section of the book, but
you might have to share or wait for someone else to finish before you can get a
copy. Fortunately, there are other parts
you can be working on. When you finish
the tutorial, print out the schematic you created, with a box on it with the
project number and your and your partner’s names.
2.
Get
a C.A.D.E.T. and put your and your partner’s names on it (piece of paper taped
to the CADET should work). Measure the 4
voltages out of the power supply and record them on a piece of paper with your
names on it. Adjust the variable voltages
to be as close to 0 volts as possible.
Hook the oscillator to one side of the speaker and hook the other side
to ground. Turn the voltage out of the
oscillator up as high as possible. Vary
the frequency and waveform type and notice how the sound changes.
3.
Get
a 7408 chip and plug it correctly into the breadboard (straddling the big
valley). Hook +5 to pin 14 and ground to
pin 7. Hook pins 1 and 2 to switches 1
and 2, and hook pin 3 to LED 1. Verify
that it performs the and function, and then show it to me to have me verify and
sign off on it.
4.
Staple
together and turn in the LogicWorks schematic and the
paper with your measurements and my initials on it.
