The Green Dot program is a pro-social bystander approach to changing our culture to one that does not tolerate power-based personal violence and is educated on how to respond comfortably and effectively to these acts.

Green Dot is the brainchild of Dorothy Edwards, of the University of Kentucky. Like most of us working in prevention education, she was frustrated that "we weren't getting anywhere." Instead of letting that bring her down, she searched far and wide and gathered together research from numerous fields including public health, social psychology, marketing, communication, persuasive speaking, and a variety of other fields often over-looked in sexual violence prevention, she considered them all.

SUNY Oneonta assembled a team of ten professionals led by Health Educator Rebecca Harrington to attend the four-day Green Dot training hosted by SUNY Binghamton in June of 2011.

Fall 2011 Semester Activities: The Green Dot was introduced to the Student Development Division in August. As a result, the SUNY Oneonta Green Dot Team gained several new members and began speaking to groups about this new initiative. Our official campus launch is scheduled for the last week of November and will be the feature topic of this semester's final Poetry Slam.
