We Are
C.H.O.I.C.E.S. stands for Choosing Healthier Options in
the College Environment Successfully. Students assist the Office of Health
Education with educational, awareness and social activities to promote
wellness issues. C.H.O.I.C.E.S. free and confidential services are developed
by students, for students.

Application
All students are welcome to apply for a peer education
volunteer position with the C.H.O.I.C.E.S. program.

Current
Program Offerings
Sex Twister-This
is an interactive game where your residents will gain knowledge on STDs,
birth control, sexual assault and relationship violence. The good questions
focus on prevention and risk reduction. The bad focus on “OK it
happened, now what can you do.” The strange questions will keep
everyone laughing and the ’Too Much Information category allows
students to learn about the social norms regarding sexual practices on
campus. Topics covered: birth control, STDs, sexual assault, unhealthy
relationships.
Get Lucky-This program looks at the qualities of a healthy
relationship as compared to an unhealthy relationship. We also explore
a variety of ways to be romantic with our partners without having sexual
contact. Topics covered: unhealthy relationships.
Serving Size Me-This program engages
participants on a discussion about eating healthy and following the food
pyramid guidelines. Topics covered: nutrition.
Snoezelen Room-This program provides
an overview of the ways stress affects our daily life. The conclusion
allows participants to experience the nationally recognized CHOICES Snozelen
relaxation room. Topics covered: stress.
What's Your Wellness IQ?-There’s more to staying
healthy than just exercising, eating right and using a condom. There are
eight dimensions of wellness: Physical, Emotional, Social, Occupational,
Cultural, Environmental, Spiritual & Intellectual. Participants will
be led through a wellness assessment inventory. Topics covered: wellness
vs health.
The Toxic Cocktail- Think everyone’s getting drunk
and high? This program tests participants’ knowledge about alcohol,
tobacco, drug and prescription drug abuse.
Optional: This program can be focused on alcohol or tobacco or drugs.
Topics covered: alcohol, tobacco, drugs, prescription drug abuse.

Hosting
a Program
Several Weeks Before:
• Call or stop by the Office
of Health Education to schedule a program.
Week Before:
• Hang up posters
• Start talking it up
Day Before:
• Call the Office of Health Education at 3540 to make sure everything
is all set to go, set a meeting time.
• Remind your residents
• Shop for refreshments
Day Of:
• Make sure the room being used is ready to go.
• Remind your residents
• Meet the presenter
During:
• Participate!!
Day After:
• Ask your residents what they thought of the program and let the
Office of Health Ed know their responses.

OPEN
OPEN stands for Oneonta Peer Education
Network. OPEN is comprised of six peer education groups on campus: AALANA
Mentors, CAMP Mentors, Academic Team Members (ATMs), Greek Peer Advocates
(GPAs), Very Influential Peers (VIPs) and CHOICES.
The component groups of OPEN share training resources which consist of
a one time 15 hour peer education course and then ongoing trainings each
semester a student is involved with one of the groups.
By working together we can better serve the student population on campus.
