Why a Wagon?
The Office of Health Education and the CHOICES Peer Educators were looking for a fun way to increase condom use on campus and getting the latex to the people seemed like a good idea. The Hump Day Wagon provides male & female condoms, dental dams, lubricant and some fun swag to members of the SUNY Oneonta community. Everything is free so stop and stock up.
The Role of the Hump Day Wagon?
The Office of Health Education recognizes that one of the necessary steps a community must take to make it safe to discuss sexual violence is to first making talking about 'normal' sex safe. If we can clearly identify healthy sex (consent, STI prevention and birth control etc) than we can clearly identify what is not healthy. Debby Herbenick of the Kinsey Insitute explains it all in her TEDs talk "Making Sex Normal."
What We've Got & How to Use It Properly
This video comes from Planned Parenthood and covers how to check if a condom is safe to use, how to use one properly and how to dispose of it when you're done.
Male condoms can be used for vaginal, anal, or oral sex, inexpensive and easy to get, can help relieve premature ejaculation, may help a man stay erect longer, can be used with all other birth control methods except the female condom.
The Hump Day Wagon has several brands of male condoms including: Trojan, Durex, Lifestyles & Beyond 7
This video also comes from Planned Parenthood and covers how to check if a condom is safe to use, how to use one properly and how to dispose of it when you're done.
Female condoms can be used by people who are allergic to latex (they are made of nitrile), can be used for vaginal and anal intercourse, can be used with oil-based as well as water-based lubricants, do not have an effect on women’s natural hormones, stay in place whether or not a man maintains his erection.
The Hump Day Wagon has the FC2 female condom.
Dental dams are used for oral-vaginal or oral-anal sex. They are made of squares of latex and are available in a variety of flavors and sizes. Dental dams act as a barrier during oral sex to lessen the chance of sexually transmitted infections. To be effective in doing this, dental dams must be used properly. This includes checking for holes and wiping off any powder before use. Remember the 1-1 rule – use only one side and use it only once! By flipping a dental dam over or moving it to another area to use it again, it potentially exposes the user to STIs and spreads germs!
This is a rather entertaining youtube video on dental dams.
