Student Association

    Purpose

The Student Association of the State University of New York College at Oneonta, in order to establish a more workable and responsive student government, protect the rights of its members, promote the social and personal growth, advance the general welfare of the student body, protect and maintain the civil liberties of the student body, and create a government that will have both the respect and trust of the student body as well as those with whom government must partner with, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the Student Association of the State University of New York College at Oneonta.

Accounting Society

    The purpose of this organization is to bring together all people interested in Accounting. Also, to expand the knowledge of accounting through lectures, films, seminars, and through various learning excursions.

Africana & Latino Studies Club

    The Africana and Latino Studies Club of the State University College at Oneonta attempts to foster appreciation for the cultures and intellectual traditions of Africana and Latino people. The club’s primary effort is to promote awareness, knowledge and critical dialogue about issues and concerns relevant to Africana and Latino populations. Our main goal is to connect our intellectual commitments with community service endeavors throughout the Oneonta College Community. A second aim is to unite various segments of the campus community through community service focused on low income and culturally diverse groups and individuals. We also wish to promote healthy social relationships between ourselves and other fellow students and groups within the Oneonta College Community who support our educational and community service goals. These individuals and groups include but are not limited to liaisons with Hartwick College, Oneonta Job Corps, and the Oneonta Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the Cultures Club at the local High School, the Rotary Club and other local residents and groups. The club will promote participation and discussion of Africana and Latino cultural and intellectual events and related activities through:

American Chemical Society

    The objectives of this Chapter shall be to afford an opportunity for students of a chemical science to become better acquainted, to secure the intellectual stimulation that arises from professional association, to obtain experience in preparing and presenting technical material before chemical audiences, to foster a professional spirit among the members, to instill a professional pride in the chemical sciences, and to foster an awareness of the responsibilities and challenges of the modern chemist.

Anthropology Club

    The Anthropology Club will serve to offer all interested students, anthropology majors and non-majors, a place to meet and discuss scientific and anthropological subjects, and the opportunity to participate in club programming.

Apollo Music Club

    The name of the organization is The Apollo Music Club. Its purpose shall be to promote the cause of music as a fine art in the campus community. Its activities may include sponsorship of musical events, guest lecturers and performers, exchange programs of student musicians, promotion of high musical standards, service projects, fellowship of musicians, and other events of musical interest. It shall also maintain relations with other musical organizations and clubs.

2. Keeping abreast of current trends in education.

4. Making social contacts.
5. Providing opportunities for group leadership and cooperation.
6. Promoting better educational opportunities for adolescents and young adults everywhere by:
   1. Becoming aware of the special needs of adolescents.
   2. Experimenting with and discussing various activities and experiences which may be utilized with teenagers and young adults.
   3. Helping to bring into active cooperation all agencies in the community interested in the welfare of young people.

    Purpose

Computer Art Club

    The Computer art club mission is to plan, advertise, and execute Campus-wide programs that promote and educate Computer Art.

Computer Programmers United

    The purpose of CPU is the support, encouragement, and furtherance of computer science at SUNY Oneonta.

We are a forum for students and faculty to share ideas, concepts, technology, information, and insights related to the field of computer science. While we accept a wide range of topics and discussions, we value quality of meetings over the number of members.

We are also a resource for tutoring and lab assistance (through our officers) for the computer science students of SUNY Oneonta.

In addition, we support trips to computer science conferences, technology shows, programming contests, and other related events. Moreover, we encourage and fund speakers in the field to visit our campus and give presentations.

We encourage the design, coding, and promulgation of computer programs, whilst taking a hard stand against academic dishonesty.

Above all, our overriding goal is to educate students in the field of computer science and to have fun while doing it.

Criminal Justice Club

    The purpose of this organization is to gather a collection of students who are Criminal Justice majors or students who have an interest in Criminal Justice, and share open discussions and gain knowledgeable insights in this chosen field.

Dance Team

    The purpose of this organization is to bring together dancers from within our school to compete in college level dance competitions. These competitions are against other college level teams from throughout the United States

Democracy Matters

    To encourage student interest, participation, and study in campaign finance reform this will be brought about by bringing to S.U.C.O. campus speakers; showing films; and sponsoring other events that will bring campaign finance closer to the S.U.C.O. student.

Different Paths

    The purpose of Different Paths will be to create a supportive communal learning environment for practitioners of traditional pagan religions and their off springs. This environment will be established through the observation of religious holidays, seasonal changes and social gatherings.

Drag'n Rolls (Drumline)

    Purpose:
To provide a unique musical experience in marching percussion.
To provide student members with an opportunity to exhibit leadership in musical
direction and discipline in rehearsal techniques.
To serve campus community and represent the SUCO community off-campus by performing in campus activities including, but not limited to, campus and community athletic events, formal ceremonies, parades, etc.

Economics Club

    The purpose of the organization shall be to encourage and stimulate interest in the field of Economics.

Emergency Squad (OSES)

    Purpose

The Oneonta State Emergency Squad (OSES) has been established and is maintained for the purpose of providing medical aid and assistance for the State University of New York (SUNY) College at Oneonta and its surrounding communities.

Environmental Science Club

    The objectives of ESC are 2a: To offer resources, help and support to current and future Environmental Science Majors. 2b: To promote and organize intellectual and social exchanges amongst Environmental Science Majors.

Equestrian Club

    The purpose of this organization shall be to provide an opportunity for students to ride horses competitively or for recreation regardless of their race, gender, color, ethnic background, origin, or sexual preference.

Fencing

    The purpose of the Oneonta Fencing Club is to promote the ancient sport of fencing within the college community.

Finance Club

    Purpose

To establish and maintain an organization for students that will encourage and stimulate interest in the field of Business, specifically Finances and finance.

Food & Nutrition Club

    The purpose of this organization is to encourage professional growth of members interested in careers related to Dietetics and Food Service Administration.

Frequency

    The purpose of this organization is to diversify and contribute to the Fine Arts on the State University College at Oneonta campus through the art of step. The goals of this club are to bring a greater awareness to the culture of step, and improve the students’ ability to embrace and present undiscovered forms of expression. These goals will be accomplished through practice and information sessions. Frequency’s objectives are to go out and compete in other competitions, host annual competitions and events, and educational programs.

Freshman Class

Gamer's Guild

    Gamer's Guild of the State University College at Oneonta, exists to offer all interested people the opportunity to have a place to play in any type of recreational game (i.e., board games, war games, role-playing games, card games, chess, and so forth) or related activities such as movies, provide a place for people who so desire to be introduced to and learn about any game or related activity, establish this Constitution for the Gamer's Guild within the boundaries of the Student Association of the State University College at Oneonta. The Guild will promote the participation and discussion of recreational games and related activities through:

1. Sponsoring Tournaments and Conventions
2. Sponsoring trips to other Tournaments and Conventions
3. Any other activities as deemed appropriate by the membership

Gender Equality and Rights Society

    The purpose of this organization is to meet the needs and concerns of the women and men at the State University College at Oneonta. By unifying the Oneonta campus in the fight for gender equality and rights we aim to keep our community informed of the various gender issues still present in today’s society.

Geography Club

    Purpose of the Organization

To encourage student interest, participation, and study in Geography; to facilitate community service; and to increase interaction between students in geography and related disciplines. We will achieve these goals by organizing student meetings, showing films, leading trips, bringing speakers to the campus, and sponsoring other events that will bring Geography closer to the SUCO student.

Geology Club

    Purpose

To offer all interested students the opportunity to become better informed in the field of Geology and in the Earth Sciences through such activities as:

1. Guest Speakers
2. Discussion Periods
3. Accumulating Club Collections
4. Geologic field trips of both long and short duration
5. Informal presentations by student members and faculty.
6. And other activities as deemed appropriate by the membership

Habitat for Humanity

    Purpose

This association is a nonprofit organization organized pursuant to the laws of the State of New York and is a nonprofit organization as described in Section 501© (3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended.

The association is organized as follows:

1. To work with economically disadvantaged families to help them create a better human habitat in which to live.
2. To cooperate with other nonprofit organizations which are working to develop a better habitat for economically disadvantaged families.
3. To keep a positive relationship with our affiliate, Habitat for Humanity of Otsego County.
4. To enable more persons to volunteer, particularly students at SUNY Oneonta.

Hillel

Section 1: SUNY Oneonta Hillel has 3 primary purposes:

1. SUNY Oneonta Hillel shall work to unify and build a strong foundation for the Jewish community.
2. SUNY Oneonta Hillel shall create a thriving sense of Jewish pride within the Jewish community.
3. SUNY Oneonta Hillel shall provide a positive atmosphere, through service, engagement, religious, educational, cultural, social and community service programming, where Jewish students can build strong bond with one another and all members of the SUNY Oneonta community.

Hispanic Organization for Learning Advancement - HOLA

    The purpose of this organization is to sponsor Hispanic heritage and to foster the learning and awareness of the Hispanic culture.

History Club (CLIO)

    The purposes of this club are:

1. Present programs of a historical focus and interest for the college community.
2. Facilitate communications between the History Department and History Majors, History Minors and Social Education Majors by creating a forum for discussion and social meeting.
3. Promote meetings which help history students plan for careers and graduate education.

Hooked on Tonics

    The purpose is to provide students with the opportunity to sing in an a cappella group and expose the college campus to this genre of music.

Human Ecology Club

    Objectives

Section 1 – The objective of this organization shall be to promote a better understanding of family and consumer sciences among college students.

Section 2 – Specifically the organization shall work toward this objective by:

1. Participating in promoting the objective and programs of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences.
2. Promoting friendly association among faculty and student interested in family and consumer sciences.
3. Helping student meet and know people which have attained recognition in family and consumer sciences profession.
4. Working together to share enthusiasm for family and consumers sciences with others.
5. Seeking understanding among people of all nations.
6. Developing profession interest, which leads to active members in the state and nations American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences by all Human Ecology majors.

Ice Hockey

    Purpose

To establish a community for the advancement of Ice hockey in the collegiate arena and the Northeast region. In addition, the organization wishes to make Oneonta State College one of the pioneering schools in the Northeast to establish Ice hockey into the SUNY system.

Indian Culture Club

    Purpose

The ICC aims to promote Indian culture on and off campus through an array of exciting events and activities that can help expose the campus community to Indian culture. ICC also aims to create better understanding of American culture by organizing various trips & events.

International Student Organization

    Purpose

Promote a relaxed atmosphere for International Students at SUNY College at Oneonta.
Promote international understanding, acceptance and interaction amid International Students and foster good working relations with in SUNY College at Oneonta and the Oneonta community.
Promote cooperation among different organizations on campus, other colleges and communities.
Promote foreign culture on campus; bring together American and International students with an array of exciting events presented by ISO through venues like International Coffee Hour (ICH).
The ISO shall sponsor educational/non education activities such as field trips for members and may co-sponsor activities together with other organizations of its kind.

Intramural Association

    The purpose of the Intramural Association shall be to provide male and female students with an opportunity to participate in organized sport competition and informal recreational activities.

Jazz Appreciation Society

    Purpose

The Jazz Appreciation Society is dedicated to promoting jazz music throughout the State University of New York College at Oneonta campus and the surrounding community. By providing the campus with performances, speakers, organized trips to jazz concerts, and other jazz related events, we aim to make jazz a larger part of the State of New York College at Oneonta experience.

Junior Class

    The purpose of the Junior Class is to provide social, cultural, and recreational activities for the college community.

Karate Club

Kickline

    The purpose of this organization is to initiate and provide school spirit and enthusiasm at various campus events and intercollegiate athletic contests.

Knit-Wits

Section I: The purpose of the Oneonta Knit Wits is to bring together individuals with similar interests in furthering their knitting and/or crocheting abilities, and or learning knitting and crocheting techniques.

Section II: The Oneonta Knit Wits offer instruction to those interested in learning to knit and/or crochet, while promoting the benefits of knitting and crocheting.

Mask & Hammer

    The purpose of Mask and Hammer shall be two fold: First the organization shall be a club for the students of SUNY Oneonta to use as an outlet for theatrical creativity and growth by producing plays, musicals, and experimental theater projects; It shall also serve as a source of entertainment for the college and Oneonta community members who shall make up the audience.

    The purpose of this organization is as follows:

Mountain Biking Club

    The purpose of this organization shall be to promote friendship and comradery and the development of technical skills and fitness through mountain biking. The club will promote low impact use of outdoor resources and an attitude of care and stewardship of available trails at the College Camp and in the greater Oneonta community.

Music Industry Club (The MIC)

    Purpose

Section I: The Music Industry Club, as an academic based organization, shall offer its members the opportunity to gain knowledge, insight, experience and artistic development in relation to the music industry by interacting with it on a local, regional, national, and global level.

Section II: Interacting with the music industry shall be conducted through but not limited to, the organizing of trips, conferences, concerts, panel discussions, reviewing and funding responsible proposals and the publication of a student based album produced under the name Red Dragon Records.

Section III: To provide Music entertainment and opportunities for the college community.

Muslim Student Association

    Purpose

The MSA will dedicate its efforts to create a strong Muslim community on campus. The MSA will aim to facilitate and support the Muslim students of SUNY Oneonta and to help solve the various issues they face while living on and off campus. In addition, the MSA will organize events that will be aimed at promoting an understanding of the religion of Islam. MSA shall also organize trips for the benefit the students of SUNY Oneonta.

National Residence Hall Honorary

Newman Club

    Purpose

The S.U.N.Y. Oneonta Newman Club is established for the students and faculty of the State University College at Oneonta and the surrounding community, in order to further the knowledge of the Catholic faith.

Oneontan (Yearbook)

     The purpose of this organization shall be to plan, prepare and publish an annual yearbook depicting all facets of college life at the State University College at Oneonta, New York.

OnMark (American Marketing Association)

    The purpose of the SUNY Oneonta Collegiate Chapter of the American Marketing Association shall be:

1. To foster scientific study and research in the field of marketing;
2. To develop sound thinking in marketing theory and more exact knowledge and definition of marketing principles;
3. To improve the methods and techniques of marketing research;
4. To develop better public understanding and appreciation of marketing problems;
5. To study and discuss legislation and judicial decisions regarding marketing;
6. To improve marketing personnel;
7. To record progress in marketing through the publication of outstanding papers;
8. To encourage and uphold sound, honest practices, and to keep marketing work on a high ethical plane;
9. To promote friendly relations between students, faculty, and business people.

Open Minded Unity

    The purpose of this organization is to provide a safe and comfortable environment for the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, community and their allies. We propose to achieve this goal through workshops, films, reading material, and discussion groups to create a more tolerant community and environment. With this education our members will be better equipped to speak out against misconceptions and fight discrimination. Open Minded Unity will empower its members to be proud.

Otaku United

    Purpose

Oneonta Otaku United of the State University College exist to provide a place for people who desire to be emerged in Asian pop culture: Animation and live action cinematic, games, fashion, music, literature, art, recreational conventions of the sort or related activities, establish the constitution for the Oneonta Otaku United organization within the boundaries of the Student Association of the State University College at Oneonta. Otaku United will promote the participation and discussion of Asian pop culture through:

1. Sponsoring Conventions and Tournaments in games, fashion, art and related activities.
   
   
2. Sponsoring trips to other conventions.
   
   
3. Any other activities as deemed appropriate by the membership.

Outing Club

    The purpose of this organization shall be to promote friendship and proficiency in outdoor living, an appreciation of the outdoors and the growth of this feeling in other students. It also follows the guidelines of low impact, self propelled and non-motorized use of the environment.

Parnassus (English Club)

    Purpose

The Club exists to promote and support activities that contribute to the creative, scholarly, and professional development and opportunities of students interested in the study of English (not specifically in the English major), and to promote and support the enterprises of language and literature at the College.

Philosophy Club

    Purpose

The Philosophy Club of the State University College at Oneonta exists to offer all interested people the opportunity to have a place to engage in philosophical discourse or any other related activities. To provide a place for people who so desire to be introduced to informative interdisciplinary interchange of knowledge. The Philosophy Club of the State University College at Oneonta establishes this Constitution within the boundaries of the Student Association of the State University College at Oneonta. The club will promote the participation and discussion of philosophy and related activities through:

1. Sponsoring lectures and conferences
2. Sponsoring trips to other lectures and conferences
3. Any other activities as deemed appropriate by the membership

Physics Club

    Purpose

The function of the State University College at Oneonta Chapter of the Society of Physics Students shall be to promote educational activities for all students interested in physics.

Poetry Slam Association

    Purpose

The Poetry Slam Association of SUNY Oneonta, is to be responsible for the organization, preparation, and promotion of all activities and events associated with poetry, collaborating to build community, inspire innovation, exalt tradition, invigorate creativity, encourage leadership and cultivate enlightenment in the art of spoken word, while maintaining an aesthetically dynamic, interactive and conscious' atmosphere among the student body.

Political Science Club

    The Political Science Club's purpose is to encourage student interest, participation, and study in Political Science. This will be accomplished by bringing in campus speakers, showing films, and sponsoring other events that will bring Political Science closer to the S.U.C.O. student.

Pre-Health Professions Association

    The purpose of the Pre-Health Professions Association shall be to aid in the advancement of the education of students interested in the health professions. This will be accomplished by, but not limited to the following:

1. To provide its membership with information regarding the health professions.
2. To provide a forum for interaction in which students can actively exchange ideas and information relevant to the health professions.
3. To organize activities and events relevant to the health professions.

Pre-Law Society

    Purpose

The Pre-Law Society is established to aid its members and assist in preparing them for a career in law.

Protect Your Environment (PYE)

    Purpose

To encourage student interest, participation, and study in the Environmental Sciences. This will be brought about by bringing to the SUCO campus films and speakers, if possible and by educating the general public to environmental concerns affecting our daily lives. But our main purpose shall be to indentify problems of environmental degradation here on campus, and to improve the situation through volunteer programs of help.

    The purpose of the Oneonta State Racquetball Club is to promote the sport of racquetball and play on the intercollegiate level.

Resident Student Organization (RSO)

    Purpose

The Resident Student Organization’s mission is to work towards improving every aspect of on-campus living by providing and sharing information and programs in an environment conducive to learning and growing. The organization will also provide a voice for the residents of the Residential Community Life Office and Student Development Office.

Rock to Cure

    Purpose

Rock to Cure’s purpose is to provide the student population of State University of New York, College at Oneonta with the opportunity to assist, support, and organize benefit events and activities during the academic school year. Rock to Cure seeks to create and nurture a community focused on utilizing the arts, music, and club meetings to raise support and increase awareness of cancer research and other causes to students. We propose to reach out to the entire campus community and work with other Student Association Clubs and Organizations. Through the use of benefit events Rock to Cure seeks to raise money for the American Cancer Society and other charitable causes.

Women's Rugby Football Club (WORFC)

    The purpose of this club is to establish and maintain a growing intercollegiate sport at State University of New York College at Oneonta.

    St. Jude Giants has the following objectives, purposes, and goals:

Sanford Society MCSS

    The purpose of this club is to provide opportunities for students majoring in or interested in the fields offered by the Department of Mathematics, Computer Science and Statistics. This club shall provide a learning environment while offering opportunities for informal group discussion.

Senior Class

    The purpose of the Senior Class is to provide social, cultural, and recreational activities for the College community.

Ski & Snowboard Club

    Purpose

The SUCO Ski and Snowboard Club is established to create a community of skiers and snowboarders with common interests. The club will be organized to create transportation of members via carpooling and the use of the SA vans. We will promote skiing and snowboarding for the students of SUNY Oneonta. The club would like to establish a budget and request financial assistance for trips, equipment, travel and what the club members deem necessary.

Sociology Club

    The purpose of this group shall be to give the college community of Oneonta State College a place to discuss sociological issues and to provide a forum for special interests of any student wishing to communicate their personal sociological interests and theories. The faculty wishes to make themselves available to anyone in the group for guidance in sociological research. The club will be a place for members to present their research to the rest of the group. The group will act as a scrutinizing and productive force to assist members in published materials, and give assistance in placing and directing members towards graduate work in the field of sociology.

    The purpose of the Sophomore Class is to provide social, cultural, and recreational activities for the college community.

State Times

    Purpose

In recognition of its status as the official Student Association newspaper, the STATE TIMES advances the following as a general statement of purpose:

Student Fashion Society

1. The primary purpose of this society shall be to create a better understanding of any and all aspects of fashion.
2. The secondary purpose of this society shall be to provide the students with an understanding and appreciation for the dynamic and multidimensional nature of the fashion business.

Students' Alternative Voice

    Purpose

To provide an outlet for students who hold political view alternative to those held in the mainstream media and politics, and concerned with expressing those views openly and publicily and translating them into political activism on campus.

SAV's goal is to promote awareness of the human costs of military interventions, inquire into the roots causes of terrorism, educate ourselves and other about alternatives to military retaliation, advocate for the maintenance of constitutional rights and protections for all citizens in the United States, and promote political and social awareness and dialoge through meetings, forums, petitions, and other events on campus.

Students for Global Education

    The purpose of this club is to provide implementations of education in disadvantaged and developing communities.

The Wire

    Purpose

The Wire exists to enhance skills and experience in the field of video, audio and television production through interaction and hands-on experience by utilizing professional equipment, video-editing software and through shared experiences with other organizations and the College at Oneonta.

WONY 90.9 FM

    Purpose

We, the members of WONY 90.9 FM, do unite to establish and maintain this station as a student organization and to adopt for its government this Constitution and By-Laws. Our purposes for so are to provide news, education, and entertainment for our listening audience, and training experience in radio broadcasting and radio management for the staff

WONY is an alternative, non-commercial, educational radio station financed by the Student Association of SUNY-Oneonta. WONY is owned and its license is held by the State University of New York, which is issued by the Federal Communications Commission.

Young Republicans' Club

    The purpose of the Young Republicans’ Club is to recruit, promote and educate the college community about the conservative ideology. The club will also serve as a forum for discussion and debate about current political issues. The club intends to hold programs, bring in guest speakers and organize trips to serve an educational purpose.

Zombie Defense Corp

    The purpose of the Zombie Defense Corps is to raise awareness for the importance of having a plan for an invasion of zombies. This group will focus on creating a plan to aid in the safety of students at SUNY Oneonta in case of an attack by zombies. We plan to put on programs throughout the year to help raise awareness concerning zombies and zombie related issues.
