+Academic Achievement Banquet

Description:  This event is held in the fall and spring semester each academic year, and it's purpose is to honor residential students who have achieved a 4.0 semester GPA with a cumulative 3.85 or above GPA. Approximately 200 students are invited each semester, and each student is allowed to bring up to two family members and one faculty member who has had an impact on their academic success. The event consists of a formal banquet style dinner with a keynote speech (typically from the University President), and a recognition ceremony concludes the evening. This is a highly prestigious event, and students are excited when they are invited to attend. Several students have attended 5 or more times, and the guests shows a great deal of support to honor the academic achievements of these students

Description:  This is a special celebration and tradition reserved for those students who have completed their Bachelor’s Degrees.  Hosted by the President and Provost, the special accomplishments of four year students are recognized, and saluted with a toast to their future success.  The event takes place is the College’s Hospitality Center, and is semi-formal in nature. Graduates have the special honor of inviting their favorite faculty or staff member to share in the celebration.

Description:  The College Recognition Dinner provides an opportunity for the College administration to formally recognize the achievements of BASC, Research Foundation, and State employees.  The event consists of a reception, a dinner, and a ceremony during which awards are presented for the following categories: Longevity (of employment), Outstanding Service, and the Chancellor's Awards.  Additionally, employees that have retired during the year are recognized.

Description:  Sponsored by the President and the Alumni Association, the commencement dinner is one of SUNY Delhi’s newer traditions. Its’ popularity among graduating students has grown tremendously in just a few years.  Graduating students are invited to attend a formal dinner two days before graduation. They are served an upscale meal by members of the President’s Cabinet, Academic Deans, faculty, and staff.  Students who have reached milestones in community service are commended  personally by the President with a framed award and a special cord to wear at graduation.

Description:  Custodial Appreciation Day is celebrated at the end of each academic year, where all of the residents, along with Residential Life/Learning Communities staff recognize and appreciate all the dedication and hard work demonstrated by our facilities staff. Each residence hall community creates their own unique way to thank and honor their staff.

+Deans Awards Ceremonies

Description:  Toward the close of each spring semester, the deans host their awards ceremonies and receptions to celebrate student excellence within their schools. Academic departments each select their recipients for the Deans Award. Recipients receive medals, which they may wear at commencement. In addition, the role of new retirees is announced and short biographies are read as faculty, staff, and students applaud their contributions within their schools.

+The Dr. Seth L. Spellman Jr, Achievement Awards

Description:  The Dr. Seth Spellman, Jr. Achievement Awards program was created in 1986 as a way for the campus community to recognize and acknowledge the academic achievements of students of African, Asian, Latino and Native American heritage at the University at Albany. The program was later expanded to also include recognition of outstanding student leadership and community service. It is held annually in early to Mid April   Framed Certificates are given to each student with a gpa of 3.0.  The GPA's are sorted by Class year, Gender, and Ethnicity.  The students with the highest GPA in each ethnic category, class year and gender (i.e. highest jr. class Latino male G.P.A.  or highest sophomore Asian female GPA), receive a Top Spellman Award Plaque.  Community Service and Leadership Award recipients are nominated by their peers, faculty, and staff.  The ceremony is followed by a brief reception for the recipients, families, and friends

Description:  Since 1982, The Honors and Awards Ceremony has recognized thousands of extraordinary students in all academic areas of the college. Each student who is selected as an outstanding achievement, college wide, departmental or program scholar and the students receiving the top three school awards, the Marion Schrank Student Leadership Award and President's Citation is individually honored at this special college-wide event.

+Honors Convocation

Description:  The Honors Convocation is held late in the spring semester, typically in April. This ceremony honors students who have achieved a cumulative 3.50 GPA with a specific number of minimum credit hours completed. Honorees invite a favorite professor/mentor to attend with them. The campus community is invited to attend. The speaker is chosen from among the four Buffalo State schools on a rotating basis. The student president of Gamma Mu, the Buffalo State chapter of Kappa Delta Pi international honor society in education, presides over the ceremony. Incepted by Kappa Delta Pi in 1958, the honor society and the Academic and Student Affairs Office have been co-sponsors since 1983.

+Inaugural Dinner/Recognition Banquet

Description:  A semi-formal recognition banquet/inauguration is held for FIT student leaders each year in April.  Faculty/staff club advisors recommend student leaders who have made outstanding contributions for recognition.  Awards are also given to clubs and advisors for various achievements.  This dinner is held at an off-campus banquet space where administrators, faculty, and staff join the festivities to recognize student leaders.   A unique aspect of the evening includes the inauguration of the incoming elected officers for the FIT Student Association and Programming Board.  Newly elected officers take an oath of office that is given by the College President.  The outgoing and incoming student presidents both give speeches and formal portraits of each group are taken for various publications.

Description:  A capstone event for graduating students, families, and friends.  Each year, graduating seniors invite family, friends, and campus supporters to share in their accomplishments.  The event features an overview of the last four years as well as congratulations of each student’s accomplishments.  Every graduate is presented with a stole inspired by their home country.

Description:  The Kente Graduation Ceremony recognizes and celebrates the accomplishments of our under-represented students upon their graduation from college. Graduates are presented with the Kente stole which is worn at commencement as it signifies and symbolizes higher education's connection to the cultures, intellectual traditions, and academic achievements of the Africana World.

+Military Science Commissioning Ceremony

Description:  When Reserve Officers' Training Corps Cadets/Students successfully complete their academic and leadership training requirements and are deemed ready to become officers, it is customary that a Commissioning Ceremony is held in their honor. This ceremony marks the transition from officer candidate to officer and serves as a special induction into the military. These young men and women take an oath to protect and support the constitution if the United States. This oath was established on June 1st, 1789.

+Natural and Social Sciences Research Symposium

Description:  This is a day when students, faculty, staff, and administrators are joined by alumni, family members, and friends from the community to celebrate the sciences at Purchase. It's the one day a year that Purchase makes public the research that graduating students and faculty have been engaging in all year, both in laboratories and in the field.

+Nursing Department Pinning Ceremony

Description:  The Nursing Recognition Ceremony is the highlight of the year for the Department of Nursing.  The evening before graduation, the Department of Nursing gathers in the late afternoon in front of Hartwell Hall for a group picture of the graduates.  Family and friends of the graduates are met for a ceremony in the Ice Arena.  After greetings from the dean, chair, and student nursing organization president, an invited speaker addresses the graduates.  Then each graduate receives the Brockport nursing pin and a rose from the nursing faculty.  A joyous reception is then held in the Tuttle North Courtyard.  A wonderful prelude to the celebration at graduation the following day!

Description:  Established in 1987, the President's Award for Leadership recognizes undergraduate/graduate students and organizations that have made significant contributions to enhance the quality of life at the University at Albany. Recipients will have demonstrated a variety of accomplishments including extraordinary leadership, service, academic achievement, and involvement within the University community. At the annual March ceremony, recipients of the Outstanding Senior Award and Distinguished Scholar-Leader Award recognize a faculty or staff member who has had an impact on their collegiate career. The event is attended by students, their families, faculty, and staff.

+RA/Mentor Appreciation Day

Description:  RA/Mentor Appreciation Day, held in November, gives the campus a chance to honor and show our appreciation for the students who are Resident Hall Assistants and Mentors.  Students, Faculty, and Staff have the opportunity to write a card, send balloons, or send flowers to the RA or Mentor who has made an impact on the lives of our students.

+Recognition of Continuing and Permanent Appointment

Description:  Each year we recognize faculty/academic staff awarded continuing appointment/permanent appointment by holding a reception in the Library.  At that time we unveil the books they have chosen to be added to our permanent collection.  In the inside cover of each book there is a nameplate with their name and the date they received continuing or permanent appointment.  Each faculty/staff is given $150 to choose their book(s).  The books are showcased in the library for several months before they are moved to the stacks.

+Scholarship Luncheon

Description:  The annual Binghamton University Foundation’s Scholarship Luncheon is held the second Saturday in November. The purpose of the event is to provide scholarship, assistantship and fellowship donors with the opportunity to meet their student recipients in person.  It also provides students with the opportunity to personally thank their donors for their generosity and commitment to providing Binghamton University students with the means to obtain a quality education.  This event, hosted by the president of Binghamton University and the chair of the Binghamton University Foundation Board of Directors, is a favorite University tradition. The luncheon not only recognizes some of our most accomplished students, but helps build and nurture relationships with students, faculty, alumni, and friends who know the value of personal investments in Binghamton University.

+Senior Recognition Ceremonies in student’s residential communities

Description:  Although at Binghamton there is only one formal graduation ceremony with cap and gown, each residential community organizes its own "graduation" ceremony for seniors who live (or have lived) in that residential community.  It’s a more personal and intimate celebration, as seniors say farewell to their collegiate home away from home. All graduates receive a gift, and each residential community has created its own set of distinctive awards and honors for its outstanding students, whose names are engraved on plaques prominently displayed in their communities.  In College-in-the-Woods, pictures of the students named to the Wall of Fame are posted prominently in the CIW office.  Each community has a guest speaker.  Some communities also have a senior speaker, while in others each graduate takes a moment at the microphone to share a memory or give a ‘shout out' to friends, family or staff members who have made a difference to that student. Followed by a reception for graduates and their families and guests.

+Sophomore Day and Junior Day

Description:  Sophomore Day (held every fall) and Junior Day (held every spring) are sponsored by the Advising Center and are designed to recognize students in the "forgotten" sophomore and junior classes.  Students are invited to stop by the day-long event featuring representatives from the Career Development Center, Library, academic programs, and Enrollment Services.  The events highlight items of importance to the recognized class, such as declaring a major for sophomores and the senior project for juniors.  Students who attend receive free food and a t-shirt.

+Student Employment Recognition Awards

Description:  The Student Employee of the Year Award has been celebrated for 18 consecutive years at Buffalo State College. As part of a national initiative sponsored by the National Student Employment Association and the Northeast Association of Student Employment Administrators, the Buffalo State Career Development Center (with support from the Financial Aid Office) honors the efforts of students who work while attending college, the employers who provide job opportunities, and the individuals who supervise student workers. As an urban campus, one of Buffalo State’s distinctive features is ready access to employment and other experiential opportunities.  Approximately 75 to 100 campus and community members attend this event. Guests include on- and off-campus employers, student nominees, friends and family members of the honorees, award recipients, award selection committee members, employment supervisors, and faculty/staff/administrators. Four awards are presented:  Student Employee of the Year/Undergraduate, Student Employee of the Year/Graduate, Student Employer of the Year, and Student Supervisor of the Year. All nominees are recognized individually, with special recognition given to award recipients. The reception is a fun, festive, and special event, with many attendees commenting on how much they enjoy the opportunity to acknowledge the contributions of all involved in an essential aspect of life at Buffalo State.

Description:  At the end of the Spring Semester, the Campus Life Office hosts the Student Leadership Awards Program.  The Campus Life Staff and various student leaders recognize various student groups for most innovative programs, community service, building school spirit, and leadership development efforts.  The campus leadership classes are also recognized with certificates.  Students are also inducted into the Alma Mater Society.

Description:  Student Life Leadership Awards and Scholarships   Each spring, student leaders are formally recognized by the Division of Student Life for their outstanding contributions to enhancing the quality of campus life. Students are recognized for contributions in all areas of campus life. Additionally, two faculty members are also given awards for making outstanding contributions outside of the classroom.

+Student Research and Creativity Exposition

Description:  The Office of Student Creative Activity and Research (OSCAR) coordinates the Student Research and Creativity Exposition in late April of each year. This event takes place from noon to 6:00 p.m. and includes poster sessions, paper presentations, computer presentations, documentaries, theatrical demonstrations, art exhibits, poetry readings, and musical performances. Participants consist of both undergraduate and graduate students.  A booklet contains the program as well as abstracts of all presentations. A DVD is produced which highlights the activities of the day. We invite a successful alumnus to deliver the keynote address. Funding for the event is provided by the Vice-President for Academic Affairs and through a grant provided by the Faculty-Student Association

+Student Senate Recognition Banquet

Description:  Student Senate Recognition Banquet   This tradition is over forty years old  and takes place at the end of  each spring semester.  Representatives from all recognized clubs and organizations and their advisors gather together for a formal dinner to celebrate the many accomplishment of the past year, and give special recognition to clubs and individuals.  The coveted Student of the Year Awards, and the President’s Award for Community Service are announced at this meeting. The theme of the banquet changes every year, and the Student Senate Executive Board members serve as the hosts for this culminating annual event.

+Themed Resident Assistant End of Year Appreciation Dinner

Description:  The annual RA Banquet is an opportunity for the Office of Residential Life/Learning Communities to recognize the outstanding efforts of our staff. The banquet is typically based on the theme of the training initiatives throughout the year and includes a full dinner buffet. The recognition involves presenting numerous awards and certificates- RA of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Programmer of the Year, Certificates of Merit for programming, student interaction, superior leadership, community outreach, extraordinary academic access (Dean's List), staff of the year, and recognition of seniors.

+Transfer of Colors Ceremony

Description:  During FIT's annual commencement exercises, four graduating students are recognized for outstanding contributions to the college by being chosen to carry flags in the procession at Radio City Music Hall.  The United States, New York State, City of New York and FIT flags are each carried in by a graduating student leader who participate in the formal procession with the platform party for graduation.  Each student remains standing at the front of the stage as the Grand Marshal reads the script which relates the history of each flag.  Each flag is then passed onto another student leader who is not graduating to represent passing on the leadership to the next generation of FIT students.  The flags are then placed in holders where they remain on display throughout the ceremony.

Description:  The ceremony recognizes approximately 100 undergraduate students for their outstanding achievements in the following out-of the classroom fields:  expanded learning (research), leadership, community service, athletics.  Students are nominated by faculty and staff, a faculty/staff selection committee process follows and the event is attended by students, families, faculty and staff members.  A dessert reception follows.
