Downtown Bus Service

Downtown Bus Service is provided to students via Oneonta Public Transit. The Student Association has a contractual relationship with OPT but does not determine exact hours of service or the numbers of busses. Due to our relationship with OPT, we can REQUEST special hours and services but we cannot require them. The SA pays on a per rider basis, that is, each time you get on the bus, we are charged. The SA only covers riders on the SUNY UNIVERSITY Route and the new SUNY SOUTHSIDE Route. You must pay a full fare if initiating on another route or a transfer fare if transferring to another route.

Student Conduct
It is an expectation that all students will conduct themselves in a manner that befits our esteemed student body. Students should be prepared to swipe a valid card or pay the fee. Students should be appropriately polite with the drivers and should act accordingly and civil at all times.

When people are rude to drivers, try to cheat the system, fight, or are drunk and disorderly, it makes the drivers' not want to provide this vital service. OPT has issues staffing some runs due to the items listed above. It is always wise to remember that busses are equipped with cameras.

Who can ride the bus?
Anybody can ride the bus but only undergraduate students who have paid their activities fee will be covered by the SA.* All undergraduates with 9 or more credit hours are assessed the activites fee automatically, but if there is a delay in clearing your bill, you may have issues getting on the bus. All others must pay the general fee of $1 per ride.
* You are covered when residence halls are open only!

I am a full-time undergrad, how do I ride the bus?
You NEED to have your college ID card or be prepared to pay. When you get on the bus, you swipe your card on the fare collection box and it will recognize you.

There are NEW HOURS AND SERVICES being offered this year. Please check the schedule carefully.

Changes:

  1. Whenever there are multiple busses, they will run alternating rather than concurrently to give you more options
  2. Southside runs added on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights and Sunday during the day.
