Emerging Leaders is for any student interested in developing their leadership skills with priority given to freshman and sophomore students as well as new transfer students. The program is free for all students to attend. The program lasts one full day and all participants are required to attend every session. Students are encouraged to dress business casual.
Faculty, professional staff, alumni, and community members will lead the educational sessions. Students can anticipate learning about: leadership development, assessment and evaluation, event management, meaningful interpersonal relationships, collaboration, social responsibility, effective communication, multicultural competency, intellectual growth, and clarified values. These topic areas are core competencies outlined in the National Association for Campus Activities (NACA) “Competency Guide for College Student Leaders” document.
In addition, each emerging student leader will be assigned to a group with a Conference Assistant. These student facilitators are experienced student leaders who will lead discussions, answer questions, and will be supportive of the emerging student leaders.
Emerging Leaders fulfills the Foundations of Leadership LEAD credit. LEAD Leadership Outcomes are also assigned to the educational sessions. LEAD is the leadership program at SUNY Oneonta. For more information about LEAD, visit the LEAD website at http://www.oneonta.edu/development/lead/.
To apply for Emerging Leaders, students simply need to complete an online application. Applications will be available in October for the 2015 conference.
The next Emerging Leaders will be on Saturday, November 14, 2015.
