11:00am-12:00pm - Our SUNY Oneonta Campus-1889 to Today, Hunt Union, Red Dragon Theatre-The S.U.N.Y. College at Oneonta has changed tremendously since its founding in 1889. This highly-visual presentation (featuring over 200 photographs of campus) will showcase many of the most significant changes over the last 126 years that have shaped or influenced the creation of Oneonta’s state college into the campus we see today. Learn how the college grew from its humble origins of a Normal School, with only 13 faculty and a few hundred enrollees, to the current beautiful campus that bustles with over 6,000 students. Then and now photographs will be shown, comparing the modern S.U.N.Y. campus with its appearance in the past, along with some fascinating stories, which together will highlight every decade of the college’s existence. Benjamin Y. Dixon, Ph.D., is a professor in the Department of Geography at the S.U.N.Y. College at Oneonta. In 2003, he founded the “S.U.N.Y. Oneonta College Heritage Project” for the purpose of commemorating the history of Oneonta’s great state college through research and presentations on the evolution of our S.U.N.Y Oneonta campus from 1889 to today.
