In 1981 Mu Sigma Upsilon Sorority Incorporated, was established as the First Multicultural Greek letter organization in the nation. On March 26th 2005, The Nysa Chapter was established as the 26th chapter of Mu Sigma Upsilon. Founded by seven women from different walks of life, came together to promote the goals of this great organization: academic excellence, unity among all women and to be active in the university and community.

Mu Sigma Upsilon Sorority Incorporated is also the First Minority/ Multicultural Sorority to be recognized by The College at Oneonta in 2006, and the First minority organization to be elected on the Executive Board of Oneonta's Inter- Greek Council. Two years later eleven sisters continue to uphold the traditions that began in 1981.
