Our History: The Gender Sexuality Resource Center (GSRC) developed in the early '90s as a space to advocate for women students on campus. One female students experience with violence in her intimate relationship became the push for creating a space where women student could come together and share strategies about addressing the issue of violence in their lives. Since it began, the Center has committed itself to addressing issues of violence and well-being within the College community. During the late '90s, an alumna involved in the creation of the Center, Rebekah Delaney, helped rebirth the Center after some years where it languished. Renamed the Gender Sexuality Resource Center, it broadened its mission to include all genders and all aspects of sexuality. Two years ago a newly appointed advisory council by Professor Marilyn Helterline, then chair of the Women's and Gender Studies Department, drafted a mission statement to promote the educational and advocacy mandate of the Center. Today, the Center educated the campus community about gender and sexual equity and helps foster dialogue regarding a basic understanding of gender and sexuality. We bring together individuals of all genders, ethnicities, sexual orientations, classes, abilities, and ages to promote gender and sexual equity within the College community.
