Office of New Student Services

First Year Experience

The Office of New Student Services works with new freshman and transfer students as well as their parents during their first year at SUNY Oneonta. We are here to provide all new students with assistance as they transition to the college, whether from high school, or another college. We want you to thrive here.

Our services for new students begin with Orientation; at Orientation, new students are introduced to SUNY Oneonta’s academic and behavioral expectations; exposed to college values, traditions, and social opportunities; as well as connect with other new students, returning students, faculty and staff members.

SUNY Oneonta has a three-part orientation process:

I. The ONE, a required online academic information piece prior to their arrival for the semester.

II. The mandatory in-person orientation occurs from January 15 -17 for incoming students enrolled in spring 2017. Students will attend informational sessions, will interact with peers, and will have the opportunity to connect with faculty from their major, their area of interest, and/or their minor. Please choose the appropriate link for your schedule: Freshmen and Transfer (click here to view the schedule).

For incoming students enrolled in fall 2017, residential students will move into their Residence Hall on August 23, 2017. The mandatory in-person orientation occurs from August 24-26, 2017. Please check back here for a schedule.

III. The third piece is the whole first-year experience and the transfer-year experience. We know that students will have questions during their transition to college life. We are here to assist in helping students find those answers.

We look forward to meeting you at orientation and at the many different events and activities sponsored by the New Student Services Team. Welcome to our new freshman and transfer students.

Pass through the Pillars, Fall 2011
Pass through the Pillars is a campus tradition. All new students gather the
night before classes begin to pass through the Pillars of Old Main.
