Eligibility
Unless specifically
designated otherwise scholarship eligibility criteria includes:
- For new awards
being offered to continuing students, students must demonstrate Good
Academic Standing.
- Must be enrolled
in a degree program, registered full time (12 s.h.); or negotiate a
valid consortium agreement, serve on a full time internship or
enroll full time in a study abroad program.
- Awards are for 8
successive semesters.
- Award recipients
must meet all criteria as established by donor or awarding
department and general eligibility listed above. Review of
scholarship recipients for continuing eligibility occurs each and
every term.
- Agree to release
identity and descriptive information in publications/news releases.
- Many scholarship
awards are based on financial need, which is defined by FAFSA data
for the appropriate year; priority consideration for new awards is
for FAFSA filing dates prior to March 1.
Awarding
- All awards are
subject to available funding levels, which may change during an
award year.
- Scholarships are
awarded by Fund Managers across campus including but not limited to
Admissions, Financial Aid, and Academic Departments. In most cases
eligibility is determined from institutional data contained in
admission records, financial aid records and academic records. With
few exceptions application to specific scholarship programs is not
necessary.
- The awarding
process is a dynamic process and occurs throughout the year.
- If you receive
Federal (Title IV)/State Financial Aid, regulations mandate certain
actions by the financial aid office when additional resources
(scholarships) are awarded. The scholarship
may reduce loan or college work study
amounts, for example, depending on the individual situation.
Notification
- You will be
notified of a scholarship opportunity by the fund manager. In
addition, an updated award letter will come from the Financial Aid
Office and a letter detailing the specific required criteria of the
scholarship will come from the College President.
- These awards are
made possible through generous gifts from donors. SUNY College at
Oneonta encourages all students who have benefited from the
generosity of others to make a similar investment when they are in a
financial position to do so. Many scholarships here are available
through alumni donors who give back to other students. You will be
provided with information regarding the donor for the purpose of
sending a letter of appreciation through the Office of College
Advancement. It is the expectation of Foundation that recipients
write letters of appreciation to donors.
Renewability
- Many
scholarships are automatically renewable (extended to future
semesters), as long as you continue to meet eligibility guidelines,
which vary.
- Cumulative
Institutional GPA is reviewed at close of spring semester for
renewals.
- If renewable
criteria are not met, award will be cancelled or adjusted
accordingly.
- Filing of a
Diploma Application will confirm graduation term and determine
renewability.
Loss of Eligibility/ Appeals
- Awards are made
and disbursed early in the term, however, you are only considered
eligible for the scholarship so long as you continue to meet
eligibility criteria through the last day of the term for which the
award is granted, except in the cases of withdrawal and leave of
absence requests.
- As determined by
the criteria of each scholarship, a change in major may result in
immediate loss of an award.
- Students who
withdraw or take a leave of absence before the end of the Return to
Title IV date lose scholarship funding. Students withdrawing or take
a LOA after Return to Title IV date will retain scholarship funding
for that semester.
- Appeals for
eligibility reinstatement may be obtained from the Student
Scholarship Coordinator and will be reviewed by the Scholarship
Committee.
- As with all
awards, all successful appeals are subject to availability of
funding.
