I am writing to thank you for your support of scholarships at SUNY Oneonta and share with you the opportunities my scholarship has made possible for me. When I was selected to receive the EOP Scholarship, it was a tremendous honor. To be chosen from such a highly competitive group of students showed me that my hard work was noticed and rewarded. This scholarship helps me to focus on why I am here and not on how to pay for it.

SUNY Oneonta is providing me with a quality education that is truly preparing me for my career. Independent study programs enable me to pursue projects not offered in regular coursework. Small class sizes provide the opportunity to learn directly from professors who rank at the top of their field. With their help, I discovered what I want to do with my life. I will be graduating with a degree in English, and after graduate school I look forward to a career in publishing. Without the EOP Scholarship, however, I would not have been able to take advantage of these opportunities.

I would like to personally thank you for selecting me as one of the EOP Alumni Scholarship recipients. I am extremely proud in receiving this particular scholarship because I believe this scholarship will assist me in becoming the future business leader that I strongly desire to be. By having the extra financial support, I am able to focus more on school work and still be actively involved on campus.

I will be graduating in May 2008 with a Business and Economics major. I am anxiously seeking jobs as a Financial Analyst or Financial Advisor as the graduation day slowly approaches.

Thank you again for selecting me as the scholarship recipient, please continue to have such strong alumni connection. It is you who make the college dreams possible for students with financial needs. You’ve been a great support to all EOP students!

As an alumna of the College at Oneonta, I wanted to share my story of how the EOP Scholarship made a significant impact on my life. Because of alumni like you, over 900 scholarships will be awarded to highly motivated students at our College this year. Each scholarship provides an opportunity and helps another individual create his or her own Oneonta story.

When I made the decision to attend the College at Oneonta, I found myself entering exceptional surroundings. I found a setting that offered everything I needed - quality academics, caring faculty, support staff who provided a nurturing environment, and the small-town atmosphere I wanted for my undergraduate experience. Only one question remained unanswered... how could I afford to come here? The answer came the day I was awarded the EOP Scholarship.

Because my family lacked financial resources, I needed to be self-sufficient to go to college. The EOP scholarship helped me do just that. Being selected for this scholarship award motivated me to work hard and justify other people’s faith in me. I was thankful that someone who did not know me personally would invest in my future. With my financial worries lessened, I could focus on what was most important, my studies, capitalizing on every opportunity to grow and build my talents, and giving back to the college community that had given so much to me. My dream of a college education became reality in May 2005 when I graduated with my bachelor’s degree. I started working as an international theatrical film analyst for BMI shortly afterwards. None of this would have been possible, however, without alumni support of the EOP scholarship.

It is only because of your gifts given so willingly that the EOP Scholarship was available to me. In turn, I was able to succeed and fulfill my dream of obtaining a college degree. Today, I am asking you to join with me to help more students like me achieve their dreams of a college education. I hope that you will say “yes.”

Whether you invest $50 or $500 in the EOP Scholarship this fiscal year, your gift will join with the gifts of others to provide higher education opportunities to many students who may not otherwise have this chance to better their lives and achieve their dreams.
