Frequently Asked Questions about Tutorial

1.    What exactly is tutorial?

  • Tutorial is basically working one-on-one or in small groups with students who have taken and excelled in individual courses.  You bring your work (class notes, textbooks, assignments, etc.) to the tutor and he or she helps you figure out how to do it.

2.    What if I don't need any help?

  • Tutorial is NOT just for struggling students.  Tutorial is for students who are committed to excellence!  Tutors can be used for helping students get top grades, not just pass their courses.  Tutorial sessions can be arranged for lots of different purposes, from reviewing class notes to studying for tests, to papers and projects, and even for help proofreading.

3.    Can a tutor help me with my papers?

  • Absolutely!  Tutors can help with the entire writing process, from planning and outlining, to editing and proofreading.  Tutors proofread with students, helping them to become self-sufficient writers. Click here to contact the Academic Specialist.

4.    How long do Tutorial Sessions have to be?

  • As long as you need.  Some sessions are over an hour, and some may be only 15 minutes.  It's completely up to you and your tutor.

5.    Where is Tutorial?

  • Tutorial can take place in any academic setting.  You can meet your tutor in the library, or in a classroom in any building on campus.  You can also meet for tutorial in the EOP Computer Lab in 115  Alumni Hall.

6.    What is Drop-In Tutorial?

  • During weekday evening hours, there are tutors available in the EOP Computer lab in Alumni Hall Room 101K.  Students can drop in any time tutors are there for help with their work.  No appointment is needed.  If the tutors there cannot help you, they can assist you finding another tutor who can.  Click here to see the Drop In Tutorial Schedule online.

9.    How can I become a tutor?

  • To be a tutor, you must be a Junior or Senior, with a GPA of 3.3 or better.  Applications are available in both EOP Offices as well as at the Career Development Center in Netzer 110.  Tutoring is a wonderful way to keep your skills strong and it looks great on a resume!
