Questions For Employers

As the interview progresses, you may have an opportunity to ask questions of the interviewer. Be sure to have several questions in mind before reporting to the interview. Avoid questions that could have been answered when preparing for the interview. If you preface questions with a brief statement about yourself, you let the employer know that you have prepared for the interview and that the answer is important to your future decision. Listed below are some possible questions to ask the interviewer:

  •  How much travel is normally expected?

  • Can I progress at my own pace or is it structured?

  • How often are performance reviews given?

  • What would be my initial duties and responsibilities?

  • Assuming that I did well in this capacity, what would be my next step?

  • Why did you decide to work for XYZ company?

  • How long have you been with the company, Ms. Jones?

  • What have you liked most about your job and the company?

  • What kind of work can I expect to be doing in my first year?

  • What percentage of routine or detailed work will I do?

  • How much opportunity is there to see the end result of my efforts?

  • What supervisory level would review my performance?

  • How much guidance or assistance is made available to an individual worker in developing his or her goals.?

  • Can you briefly describe your training program?

  • How much opportunity will I have for decision making in my first assignment?

  • Can you describe an ideal employee?

  • What do you see as key qualifications for success in this position?

Remember...Choose your questions carefully. Only ask questions if they seem applicable. When researching the organization, you may develop a set of questions that would be more appropriate than those listed above.
