Greek Life at Oneonta \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Students in Greek letter organizations include some of the best and brightest leaders attending the College at Oneonta. The average GPA for male fraternity members is higher than the GPA for all-college males. Many sorority members are active in Order of Omega, a national Greek honor society. Each group is required to complete a minimum of one community service activity per semester, but most organizations complete far more. In the 2005-06 academic year our fraternities and sororities completed over 3,000 combined hours of community service. Each organization has one or more Greek Peer Advocates who address issues including alcohol and other drug use, stress management, safe sex and other health issues.

There are underground groups who damage the reputation of the recognized groups. Unfortunately, many Greek members do not wear their letters for fear they will be pre-judged do to the behavior of the underground groups. The recognized Greeks have many criteria they must complete each
semester, including community service and
attendance at educational programming, in order
to maintain their recognition status
