The Academic Advisement Center has two staff members who are trained to
certify students for VA benefits. Their job is to verify to the Veterans
Benefits office that the student is matriculated into a degree program at SUNY
College at Oneonta and to verify the number of credits the student is taking
each semester.
To determine your eligibility, you must apply for your
benefits. You may do so at http://www.vba.va.gov/
If you are eligible to receive benefits, you will receive a
"Certificate of Eligibility". To start receiving benefits, you
will need to bring a copy of this certificate, a copy of your DD214( if
applicable to your benefits) and
a copy of your application for benefits to the Academic Advisement
Center.
If you have received benefits at another institution, you will need to
submit a "Change of Place of Training" form, http://www.gibill.va.gov/GI_Bill_Info/education_forms.htm
Please bring a copy of this form, your certificate of eligibility and DD
214(if applicable to your benefits)to the Academic Advisement Center.
If you are a new student at SUNY Oneonta, we will not be able to
submit your verification until after you have registered for your
coursework. Understand that it can take 8 to 10 weeks after that
date before you will receive any money. If you know you are
eligible, when you receive your tuition bill you may mark it " VA
Benefits " and send it back. The Student Accounts office will
verify with us that you are indeed going to be receiving VA monies.
If you are a returning student and have not had any lapses in
attendance, the Academic Advisement Center will verify your enrollment
at the beginning of the Fall and Spring semester. Please notify
the office immediately if you are leaving the institution for any
reason.
If you are taking summer courses, you will need to let the Academic
Advisement Center know so we can verify your enrollment.
