WHEN WILL I KNOW WHICH OF MY CREDITS WILL TRANSFER?

Soon after acceptance to the College, you will be mailed a preliminary evaluation of the credit you have earned at other institutions. The evaluation is based on the official transcript (s) sent from each college attended.

The official transcript must arrive to the Admissions office from the college in a sealed envelope. A photocopy or faxed copy is not official.

If you accept your offer of admission, it is required you have a FINAL, OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT(S) sent to the Office of Admissions. This transcript should:

  • Include all coursework completed prior to enrolling at Oneonta
  • Have no incomplete or in progress grades
  • Post any degree(s) received

It is important to get your final official transcript to us as soon as possible. Without them, we cannot complete your file, and we may not be able to admit you into certain programs. (like Education), and it will affect your financial aid disbursement and registration.

Education Majors (transfer students): If you don't send a final official transcript showing a 2.8 cumulative GPA, you cannot declare Education as your Major, and you cannot come to orientation or register for education courses.

THE NEXT STEP

The first is the Transfer Credit Evaluation. This serves the following purpose:

  • Shows total credits accepted and/or in progress.
  • Shows the other institutions course number, our equivalent, and it's credit value.

The second is the Preliminary Advisement Document. This serves the following purpose:

  • Shows a 'snapshot' in your current progress of completing a degree.
  • Shows requirements that must be filled (arrows).
  • Shows how each transferred course fulfills a requirement.

WHAT IF SOME OF MY CREDITS DO NOT TRANSFER?
The SUNY transfer credit appeal process, is designed for students transferring from a two-year SUNY associate degree program into a SUNY four-year institution. This process allows for students to appeal the evaluation of their transfer credit. If you have questions concerning the evaluation of your credit and/or whether or not you qualify for this appeal process, please contact the Admissions Office. The Admissions Office in conjunction with the Registrar's Office and Academic Advisement, are continuing to work on enhancing the process to make it as smooth as possible for students and faculty members.
