Transfer Applicants
A Transfer student is defined as a student who has enrolled in any post secondary coursework following graduation from high school.

The SUNY College at Oneonta strives to enroll an intellectually talented and culturally diverse student body. Students who begin their studies at Oneonta as transfers comprise approximately 40% of our full time enrollment. Transfer students select Oneonta as their college of first choice because we provide a wide variety of high-quality academic programs in a safe, caring environment enhanced by the beauty of its natural surroundings. The faculty of the college is dedicated to excellence in teaching and to guiding the growth of the individual student's intellect and character. The College supports and encourages a diverse learning community and provides leadership in volunteer and community service.

Transfer Admission Criteria

All applications are individually reviewed with a variety of factors given serious consideration. These factors would include, but are not limited to:

  • Prior course selection and performance.
  • Cumulative GPA at prior institutions.
  • Information requested on the Supplemental Application, including essay. (only if you applied through the SUNY application)

In some cases your mid-term grades may be requested.  You can download the Midterm Grade Report Form and either mail or fax the completed form back to us, or you may also submit a mid term form provided by your institution assuming letter grades are used.

To be considered for admission, we recommend:
  • A cumulative GPA at the most recent college attended of 2.5 if you have completed at least 24 s.h. of credit bearing coursework for most majors.
  • A final cumulative GPA at the most recent college attended of 2.8 for all education majors.
  • A GPA of less than 2.0 at the most recent college attended is not acceptable for any major.
SUNY Oneonta Transfer Policies:
  • The Division of Economics & Business and the Division of Education have a statue of limitations on credits transferred into their programs. Contact the Division for more information.
  • Any candidate who was academically dismissed or suspended from a college is required to show academic success at another institution for at least one year of full-time study prior to admissions consideration.
  • Only credit satisfactorily completed at a regionally accredited institution of higher education or through external credit programs will be accepted.
  • The SUNY transfer credit appeal process, is designed for students transferring from a two-year SUNY associate degree program into a SUNY four-year institution. This process allows for students to appeal the evaluation of their transfer credit. If you have questions concerning the evaluation of your credit and/or whether or not you qualify for this appeal process, please contact the Admissions Office. The Admissions Office in conjunction with the Registrar's Office and Academic Advisement, are continuing to work on enhancing the process to make it as smooth as possible for students and faculty members.
