Biology
Jan Kee Ang Scholarship - This Scholarship is awarded to one Freshman and one Junior declared Biology majors. This scholarship is renewable if the cumulative and Biology GPA are at least 3.0. Freshman consideration is based on high school merit; the student must be within the top 10% with SAT scores, top 10% with high school average and demonstrate community service involvement. Junior consideration is based on Freshman and Sophomore college performance; the student must have successfully completed a minimum of four biology courses with a cumulative and Biology GPA of at least 3.0. The student may not receive both the Jan Kee Ang and John G. New scholarships. This Scholarship was founded by friends and colleagues in memory of Dr. Ang in 1989.
Biology Department Scholarship -
This Scholarship is awarded to one Sophomore Biology major who demonstrates academic achievement with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5. The Scholarship is renewable providing the student maintains the minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA. This Scholarship was founded in memory of Dr. William D. Wilson in 1996.
Dr. and Mrs. John and Mary Constantine Scholarship - This Scholarship is awarded to students who are intended majors of the following science fields: Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Science Education or Pre-Professional Studies for Medical, Dental or Osteopathic Schools. Selected students must also demonstrate academic achievement and financial need. This Scholarship may be awarded for the remainder of the student’s time, up to a total of four years at the College, providing the student maintains a cumulative GPA of at least 3.3, demonstrates financial need and continued academic commitment to the Science, Science Education or Pre-Professional Studies. This Scholarship was founded in 1998 by the sons of Dr. and Mrs. John Constantine in their memory.
Michael '87 and Deborah '87 Curcio Scholarship - This Scholarship is awarded to students who are majoring in one of the following fields: Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Earth Science, Physics or Astronomy. Additionally, students may receive this scholarship who are “average” and may not qualify for other types of scholarships based on perceived lack of financial need or academic performance below a specific level. Providing the students continue to meet the above criteria, this Scholarship may be renewed annually. Michael and Deborah Curcio founded and have funded this scholarship since 2008.
Michael David Kevles '93 Scholarship - This Scholarship was founded and funded by Joseph and Ellen Kevles in 2003 in memory of their son, Michael David Kevles. This Scholarship will be awarded to a student who is a Pre-Medicine major or who will be pursuing a career in Medicine. Consideration will also be given to an undergraduate student who will be studying in Israel as part of a program through the College at Oneonta. This Scholarship is renewable.
John G. New Scholarship - This Scholarship was founded in memory of Dr. John G. New in 1997 and funded by gifts from alumni, friends and family. Juniors or Seniors may be awarded this Scholarship, providing they are majoring in Ecology, Environmental Science or Biology, are interested in research and have proven academic achievement. This award is renewable.
Dr. Hans Wilk Scholarship -
This Scholarship is awarded to a Pre-Medicine Sophomore, Junior or Senior. This award is renewable, providing the students maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5.

Chemistry and Biochemistry Department Scholarship - This Scholarship is available to students who are declared Chemistry, Biochemistry or Secondary Education Chemistry majors. In order to be eligible, students must have completed at least eight semester hours of Chemistry and have a cumulative and major GPA of at least 3.0. This scholarship can be renewed annually providing the student maintains the GPA. This Scholarship was created from the gifts of alumni, faculty, staff and friends of the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department in 2007.

Dr. Carl M. Horner Scholarship - Dr. Horner, Professor Emeritus; Chemistry, founded this scholarship in 2007. He is the primary funder for this Scholarship. This award will be given to students majoring in Chemistry or Biochemistry, in support of the Campaign for Science and Technology. This Scholarship can be renewed annually.
Michael David Kevles '93 Scholarship - This Scholarship was founded and funded by Joseph and Ellen Kevles in 2003 in memory of their son, Michael David Kevles. Palmer, Professor Emeritus, this Scholarship was founded in 2007 as an incentive for students to continue their academic excellence in the fields of Water Resources, Geology and Earth Science. The award will be given to Sophomores or Juniors who have earned a cumulative GPA of at least 2.8. One-half of the award amount shall be given to a student majoring in Water Resources. The other half shall be given to a student majoring in either Geology or Earth Science (including Earth Science Adolescence Education). This will be awarded for one year only.
Steve Kluge Earth Science Scholarship - This Scholarship was established in honor of Steve Kluge, an extraordinary teacher and friend of SUNY Oneonta, from the gifts of colleagues and friends, founded in 2007. This award will be given to an entering student who graduated from Fox Lane High School, who intends to pursue a course of study in one of the Earth Sciences (Geology, Water Resources, Earth Science, Adolescent Education Earth Science, Meteorology) and who can demonstrate financial need. This award is renewable, and available to entering freshmen or transfers.
QTZ Scholarship - Terry Quinn ’82, Eric Tappa ’81 and James Zachos ’82 established this Scholarship to help preserve the academic setting they fondly recall from their undergraduate days here at the College. Through their continuing and generous support, and that of others who share their sentiment, this scholarship will recruit and retain students with outstanding performance in Earth Science disciplines. Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors who are studying Geology, Water Resources or Earth Sciences are eligible for this award.

Peter W. Knightes '67 Scholarship - Peter W. Knightes, Class of 1967, founded and has been funding this Scholarship since its inception in 1999. This award will be given to students who are majoring in Earth Science Adolescent Education with the intention of teaching Earth Science in Grades 7 to 12 in the public schools of New York State. This award is renewable providing the students continue with this curriculum.

David and Mary P. Dacquino '80 Scholarship - This Scholarship was created in 2008 from the gifts of David and Mary P. Dacquino, Class of 1980. This award will be given to students who declare a major in the field of Environmental Sciences and who demonstrate financial need. This award may be renewed annually, providing the awardee(s) continue to meet the above criteria.
Helga Reissner Karker
'59G Scholarship - This Scholarship was created in 1994 from the gifts of Helga Reissner Karker, in memory of Dr. Albert Reissner. This is awarded to a student or students who have demonstrated a need for financial assistance and whose academic major is in the Environmental Sciences program, with preference given to women. This award is renewable providing the awardee(s) maintain at least a cumulative GPA of 2.0.
John G. New Scholarship - This Scholarship was founded in memory of Dr. John G. New in 1997 and funded by gifts from alumni, friends and family. Juniors or Seniors may be awarded this Scholarship, providing they are majoring in Ecology, Environmental Science or Biology, are interested in research and have proven academic achievement. This award is renewable.
Craig Richard Sturdevant Scholarship - This Scholarship was created in 2007 in memory of Craig Richard Sturdevant, Class of 1988. Craig’s life-long love of the Earth and nature, nourished by the caring and concerned faculty at the College, led him to a fruitful career as a teacher of Earth Sciences. Craig passed away prematurely in 1996 after a bout with cancer, and he is remembered to this day as a unique and exemplary individual by his professors at the College. This scholarship honors Craig’s memory and is intended to foster the same passion for learning and experiencing the beauty and science of the Earth in other students attending the College who are majoring in the Environmental Sciences. This award may be renewed annually.

Fay Morely Edwards Scholarship - This Scholarship was created in 2003 from the estate of the late Rose M. Edwards, to support students interested in teaching Environmental Sciences.

James and Laura Bidwell Scholarship - This Scholarship was created through the gifts of James R. Bidwell, Class of 1983 and Laura A. Bidwell. This award will be made to a student with a major in Science, Math or Education, with preference given to candidates with a dual major in two of the three. Steven Edelstein '79 Scholarship in Honor of Dr. Foster Brown -
This Scholarship was created from the gifts of Steven Edelstein ’79, established in honor of Dr. Foster Brown who had a distinguished career as a member of the faculty in the Department of Psychology. This merit based award will be given to sophomores or juniors of high academic achievement, who have declared a major in Economics, Mathematics, Statistics of Psychology and who plan on pursuing a course of study involving applied quantitative methods and/or experimental research design. This scholarship is renewable annually providing the students continue their course of studies in one of the above stated curriculums.
Dr. James A. Fraley Memorial Scholarship - This Scholarship was created in 1995 in memory of Statistics Professor James A. Fraley. Undergraduate students (except graduating Seniors) who major in statistics are eligible for this award. This award will be based on financial need and academic achievement. Students must have a minimum GPA of 2.66 in statistics courses (the SAT Math or another equivalent score may be substituted for Freshmen students,) contributions to the Statistics program at the College such as participation in undergraduate research, providing tutorial services and involvement in independent study, all in the field of Statistics.
William L. Ryder - John J. Michalak Computer Science Scholarship -
This Scholarship was created in 2003 from the gifts of James and Kathryn Ryder. Sophomore and Junior declared Computer Science majors are eligible for this award, who have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 and minimum Computer Science GPA of 3.0. This shall be granted without regard to financial need. Preference will be given to students who contribute to the Computer Science program such as participation in undergraduate research, providing tutorial services, involvement in independent study, assistance in laboratories or any other contribution within the Mathematics, Computer Science and Statistics Department or the College while attending SUNY Oneonta.

Robert W. Caputo Scholarship - This Scholarship was created in 1994 from the gifts of family and friends in memory of Robert W. Caputo, Class of 1984. This award will be given to students who are Junior or Senior Meteorology majors, and who have demonstrated superior academic achievement and/or service to the department. This award may be renewed annually.

Charles T. P. Wang Memorial Scholarship - This Scholarship was created in 1993 from the gifts of family, friends and colleagues in memory of Dr. Charles T.P. Wang, Professor of Physics at the College from 1967-1993. Students with majors in Physics Option A, Physics Option B or Secondary Physics Education are eligible for this award. A Sophomore will be chosen who has taken three General Physics courses at the College. Charles T. P. Wang Memorial Scholarship - This Scholarship was created in 1993 from the gifts of family, friends and colleagues in memory of Dr. Charles T.P. Gwen Latendorf Schuster '68,
'73G and Rudolph Schuster, DVM Scholarship - This Scholarship was created in 2007 from the gifts of Gwen Latendorf Schuster, ’68, ‘73G and her husband, Rudy. This award will be given to students who are Science Education or Family and Consumer Science Education majors. It is the goal of the donors that this scholarship be used to recruit and retain stop students in these fields. This award may be renewed annually providing the recipients still be pursuing one of these two fields.

Roger Arthur Frost Scholarship - This Scholarship was created in 2007 from a gift from Dr. James Frost in honor of Roger Arthur Frost, son of Dr. James Frost and the late Elise Lorenz Frost. Dr. James Frost, Professor and Dean of the College (Vice President for Academic Affairs) from 1964-1974. This award will be given to students majoring in the Sciences or Technology in support of the College’s Fund for Excellence and Science Technology Fund campaign. It may be used to recruit Freshmen students; however, it is intended that the entire award amount go to one student. This award is renewable annually.
Barbara K. Grigoleit "Strawberry Dreams" Scholarship for Excellence in
Math and Science - This Scholarship was created in 2007 from the gifts of Deb Ballentine in loving memory of Barbara K. Grigoleit. This award will be made to Math or Science Majors and is renewable annually contingent upon the awardee(s) maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Janet Perna '70 Women in Technology Scholarship - This Scholarship was created in 2006 from the gifts of Janet Perna, Class of 1970. This award will be given to entering freshman women students who pursue a major in at least one or more of the following fields of Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Mathematics, Computer Science and Statistics, Physics or the Secondary Education Program in one of these fields. Students must also demonstrate financial need. This award is renewable annually.
Priscilla A. Storms '49 Scholarship - This Scholarship was created in 2007 from the gifts of Priscilla A. Storms, Class of 1949. This award will be given to students majoring in Science or Technology (Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Earth Science, Computer Science and Mathematics) in support of the College’s Fund for Excellence and Science Technology Fund campaign.
