Creating Opportunities for Students Through |

At the College at
Oneonta, we continue to be focused on raising funds for the necessary
resources such as scholarships and endowed funds, to ensure that our
students have the opportunity to reach their full potential and receive
a quality college education. Scholarships provide financial ease for
students and their families, while endowed funds provide funding for
lectureships with distinguished speakers, equipment for labs and
classrooms, and awards for outstanding faculty and students. By working with the Division of College Advancement, donors can define the criteria for a scholarship or fund. The criteria can be based on many things including academic achievement, financial need, academic major, geographic area, department, etc. Donors can create scholarships or funds in their own names, or they can honor family members, colleagues, or friends, by creating a scholarship or fund in their name. A scholarship becomes endowed and is awarded when the principal reaches $25,000, and a fund becomes endowed and utilized when the principle reaches $10,000. There are several ways to make a gift to endow a scholarship or fund, and you can view a list of options here. Contributions made by a donor for an endowed scholarship are prudently invested and managed by the College at Oneonta Foundation. Once the scholarship or fund is endowed and can be utilized, five percent of the earnings are expended each year, while the principal is preserved and grows so that the scholarship or fund will be awarded in perpetuity.
