Center for Economic & Community Development / NEWS

The CECD supports the State University of New York mission by providing educational services and pursuant activities that meet or address student and community needs and goals (NYS Education Law, Section 351:e). This is done through research and knowledge transfer, public service to enhance people's well-being, participation with local groups regarding local economies and quality of life, and cooperation with other institutions. To this end, SUNY held a conference, in September 2011 in Buffalo titled "Universities as Economic Drivers."

The CECD supports the SUNY College at Oneonta mission by helping this SUNY unit foster students' development through participation in opportunities that challenge selected students to apply their new knowledge in service to the local community.

A recent strategic plan (2010) proposed the College be one that "unites excellence in teaching, scholarship, civic engagement, and stewardship to create a student-centered learning community." Given this mission, the CECD will also help faculty and staff in this College community to engage with - and contribute to - the regional community within and beyond the classroom in support of SUNY's broad, public mission.
