Center for Economic & Community Development / About CECD

"A community resource linking teaching, scholarship and service"

The Center for Economic & Community Development (CECD) is an analysis and problem-solving resource to help the SUNY College at Oneonta and surrounding region.

NYS Education Law (Section 351) calls for SUNY to share "the expertise of the state university with the business, agricultural, governmental, labor and nonprofit sectors of the state through a program of public service for the purpose of enhancing the well-being of the people of the state of New York and in protecting our environmental and marine resources."

The CECD does this through partnerships for community analysis, strategic planning and leadership development. The results are quality information on challenges facing people, organizations and municipalities; information-driven plans for change; and networks of community leaders.

Established in 1990, the CECD is part of the Division of College Advancement which develops relationships and secures resources the enable SUNY Oneonta to achieve its vision and mission. It does this by engaging others to improve the College and its community.
