2015 STUDENT RESEARCH AND CREATIVE ACTIVITY DAY
What makes SUNY Oneonta special…
Oneonta is a small learning environment and allows students to feel like contributing members, not just small fish in a big pond. I especially felt this when interacting with professors who will do anything they can to see their students succeed.
Why I chose to participate in the Student Research and Creative Activity Day…
The Student Research and Creative Activity Day was a great way for me to showcase the research project that took up most of my junior year. This was my first time presenting research on such a large scale and the experience will come in handy when I present at a national conference next year. Also, it was interesting to see what research and creative activity other students from across campus were working on. Being able to effectively communicate ideas to a diverse audience is important, not only in medicine, but in every career field. Whether itís presenting research or any other professional doings, the skills obtained from experiences like the SRCA Day directly relate to career success.
How it felt to be chosen as an awardee…
Initially, I had no idea there was an awards component to the program. When I found out my research project was chosen as one of only five awardees, I was extremely proud and grateful for the recognition. It has driven me to be the best student researcher I can be for the remainder of my college career.
Why supporting creative activity and research at SUNY Oneonta is so important…
Supporting students in all endeavors is key to making SUNY Oneonta an interesting and unique learning environment. Financially supporting programs like the Student Research and Creative Activity Day provides students with skills and experiences that will translate into many areas of their professional careers.
