DavisDR. WARREN & MRS. RITA WELLMAN SCHOLARSHIP FOR STUDY ABROAD
Megan Davis ’17

Why I chose Milan…
Milan is one of the fashion capitals of the world and I had the privilege of being there during Fashion Week 2015. I participated in multiple events and was able to get hands-on experience in so many different areas of the fashion industry. Since my professors in Milan have spent their careers in fashion, I received a unique education taught through their personal experiences.

Why studying abroad is so important…
By networking with students, professors, and professionals from around the world, my time in Milan solidified my interest in the fashion and design industry. Moving out of my comfort zone and spending a semester abroad helped me gain a greater appreciation for different people and cultures. When I first arrived I experienced some culture shock but things quickly smoothed out. Aside from Milan I was also able to visit Genova, Turin, Milano, Ireland, and Germany.

What I love about SUNY Oneonta…

I love how easy it is to get involved. This past fall I was an active member in the Student Fashion Society and worked on a service-learning project through the Center for Social Responsibility and Community. By partnering with the Ninash Foundation, a non-profit focused on promoting literacy in India, I worked with other Fashion students to raise funds selling assorted scarves and bags to support teachers in India. This was a very rewarding experience.

The support I received…
Studying abroad can be an enormous expense, one that I likely would not have been able to handle on my own. Thankfully, I was awarded the Dr. Warren & Mrs. Rita Wellman Scholarship for Study Abroad. This scholarship provided the resources I needed to afford my study abroad program and take advantage of this life changing experience.
