Phone Services & Features

Standard Features

The following features are provided at no charge as part of our standard features:

Call Forwarding:
This feature allows you to have your calls forwarded to a different campus location. To activate it, lift the handset, dial the characters # 1, and wait for the dial tone. Then dial the number to which the calls should be forwarded and hang up. To cancel call forwarding, lift the handset, dial the characters # 1, wait for the dial tone, and then hang up.

Call Waiting:
This feature allows you to receive calls while you are talking the phone. Two quick beeps will alert you to the incoming call. To answer it, tap the switchhook to put the first caller on hold and to talk to the second. Tap the switchhook to alternate between calls.

Optional Features

Additional Phone line:
An additional line is an optional service available to all on-campus students. Often, students find that one phone line cannot accommodate all of their and their roommates needs.  The one time installation charge is $15 and the monthly fee is $15. Voice mail can also be added to the additional line for $3 per month.  To order an additional line, you must visit the Telecom Office and sign up for the service.

Call Types

Direct Dial:
Dialing direct may be the most economical way to stretch your calling dollars. When you dial direct, you use your SUNY Oneonta authorization code and take advantage of the discount rates offered by the college.

Person-to-Person and Collect Calls:
Students are not allowed to receive person-to-person or collect calls at SUNY Oneonta. It is possible for students to make collect or person-to-person calls, but remember, these types of calls can be very expensive.  If the college incurs charges for person-to-person or collect calls, the charges will be billed to the student who made or received the call.

Credit Card or Calling Card Calls:
It is possible to use a credit card or calling card. However, you may be billed at a higher rate than if you were to dial direct using your SUNY Oneonta authorization code.
